Specialist clinical fellow - general medicine and gastroenterology

Job Overview An opportunity has arisen for a Specialist Clinical Fellow post in Endoscopy at Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust. The trust has 3 Endoscopy units across 3 sites including the new Heatherwood Hospital which opened in March 2022 and was recently awarded accreditation by NHS England’s Getting It Right First Time (GIRFT) programme. Frimley Health is a dynamic high performing foundation trust with reputational excellence in endoscopy, gastroenterology, hepatology, GI surgery and IBD diagnostics. The endoscopy units at the 3 main sites are JAG accredited and perform BCSP and advanced endoscopy, in addition to an established small bowel capsule service and GI physiology (oesophageal manometry, pH monitoring, BRAVO capsule studies and hydrogen breath tests). We are the first trust in the region to introduce capsule sponge studies for Barrett’s Oesophagus surveillance. Main duties of the job We are seeking to appoint a Specialist Clinical Fellow on a fixed-term contract for 12 months. This fellowship would be suitable for a Gastroenterologist who is reaching the end of their specialist training and wishes to develop a specialist interest in Endoscopy. The post holder will be part of the wider endoscopy team at Frimley Health NHS Foundation trust consisting of 16 gastroenterologists and 3 clinical endoscopists working across 3 sites and 11 procedure rooms. opportunities will be available for training in advanced endoscopic techniques. These include, oesophageal RFA (HALO), upper GI EMR, single balloon enteroscopy, capsule endoscopy, colonic EMR and dilatations. Opportunities to learn full thickness resection is also available. The post holder will be a member of the endoscopy training team and opportunities will be available in endoscopy education. The appointee will be expected to be competent in upper GI endoscopy, flexible sigmoidoscopy and colonoscopy and in addition to attending designated training lists; they will be expected to undertake service provision lists during the week. The exact mix of endoscopy activity will depend on the previous experience and training needs of the appointee. Flexibility in backfilling lists will be expected. There will be the possibility to participate in the GI bleed on-call rota to gain experience of acute GI bleeds. Person specification Quali Essential criteria Full registration with GMC and a licence to practice.
