Role Overview
As a Private Client Solicitor, you will lead and develop the firm’s Private Client department, managing a high‑value caseload while driving business growth and ensuring exceptional client service. This senior leadership role requires a proven track record in advising high‑net‑worth individuals, complex estates, and trusts, alongside strong management, strategic, and business development skills.
Key Responsibilities
Client Work
* Advise clients on a full range of private client matters, including:
* Wills (including Business Wills), trusts, and estate planning
* Probate and estate administration
* Inheritance tax planning
* Powers of attorney and Court of Protection work
* Succession planning for family businesses and high‑net‑worth individuals
* Maintain the highest professional and ethical standards in all client dealings.
Leadership & Management
* Provide strategic direction and operational leadership to the Private Client team.
* Supervise solicitors and support staff within the department.
* Manage team performance and ensure financial targets are achieved.
* Oversee compliance with SRA regulations, data protection, and firm policies.
Business Development
* Lead client relationship management and networking initiatives to expand the firm’s private client offering.
* Develop new business opportunities, including referrals and strategic partnerships with financial advisors.
* Contribute to the firm’s marketing strategy, thought leadership, and client events.
Financial & Strategic Responsibility
* Take ownership of departmental budgets, billing, and profitability.
* Contribute to firmwide strategic planning and decision‑making as part of the senior management team.
* Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and ensure sustainable growth.
Key Skills & Experience
* Qualified Solicitor in England & Wales (8+ years PQE).
* Extensive experience in private client law, including estate and tax planning.
* Strong commercial acumen and business development record.
* Excellent client care and interpersonal skills.
* Proven leadership or management experience at Partner/Director level.
* STEP qualification (or working towards) strongly preferred.
* Experience with high‑net‑worth individuals.
* Experience in contributing to firm governance or strategic committees.
