Locum Speciality Doctor in General Surgery

Day-to-day management of general surgical patients under general surgery
Care of out-patients, including the conducting of clinics under the supervision of a Consultant General Surgeon.
To undertake theatre lists on general surgical patients under the supervision of a Consultant Surgeon.
The post-holders are expected to participate in the management of the department, especially in ensuring that appropriate deputising arrangement(s) are made, when necessary, and supervising the day-to-day clinical work of the junior staff in the department.
The post-holders are encouraged to pursue research projects which will lead to publication of scientific papers.
The post-holders are expected to be committed to maintaining a high standard of note-keeping and communication with General Practitioners. He/she will be involved in preparing information for entry to the hospital's Clinical Information System and in preparing Discharge Summaries of patients under the care of the consultant for whom he/she is working at the time.
Any other duties commensurate with the grade which may be allocated from time to time.
Main duties of the job
* Maintenance of the highest clinical standards in the management and care given of patients
* Day to day management of surgical patients under Consultant General Surgeon's care
* To undertake theatre lists on surgical patients under the supervision of a Consultant General Surgeon
* To be part of the 1 in 10 week on-call rota
* Assisting with teaching and training of junior staff and medical students
* To actively participate in both departmental and Trust matters concerning Clinical Governance and audit
* To have responsibility for ensuring active participation in continuing medical education (CME)

Qualifications
* MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
Clinical skills
* Acute care safe: Out of hours experience relevant to the job.
* Relevant specialty clinical knowledge: capacity to apply sound clinical knowledge relevant to the job,
* Clinical judgement: experience in making clinical decisions and managing risk. Knows when to seek help, able to prioritise clinical need.
* Practical skills: shows aptitude for practical skills, required in the job.
* Proven ability to work effectively in different clinical settings required in the job.
