Job Title: Consultant in Endoscopy
Principal Activities
Clinical Duties
The post-holders will work primarily at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford and the Horton Hospital in Banbury, and are expected to be willing to work at any of the Trusts locations, with possible future Saturday lists.
Clinics are standard 4‑hour sessions: 30 minutes for new patients and 15 minutes for follow‑up patients.
Endoscopy lists consist of 12 units per list, comprising:
* Upper gastrointestinal endoscopy – 1 diagnostic unit, 1.5–2 therapeutic units
* Colonoscopy – 2 diagnostic units (including simple polypectomy), 3 therapeutic units
Office space with computer/laptop will be provided; IT support is available from the Trust. Mentorship support from an existing consultant will be offered.
Teaching & Research
Participants are required to engage in teaching clinical students, training junior doctors, and conducting clinical examinations, integrating this work into everyday clinical activity. Contributions to teaching, training, and research are included in the regular job plan review.
Clinical Governance
* Participation in clinical audits, effectiveness reviews, risk management, and quality improvement activities.
* Compliance with external accrediting bodies and Trust policies.
Professional Development
* Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of relevant practice and demonstrate competency to the Trust.
* Engage in study leave, postgraduate training, CME courses, and other personal development activities as needed.
* Full participation in appraisal and revalidation processes.
* Administrative responsibilities within the clinical department under direction of lead clinician and/or directorate chair.
Risk, Health & Safety & Infection Control
* Adherence to Health & Safety at Work Act 1974, statutory regulations, and Trust policies.
* Strict compliance with Trust Infection Prevention and Control Policies.
* Decontaminate hands before and after patient contact or contact with the patients surroundings.
* Attendance at mandatory infection control training.
