Offer description

Royal Museums Greenwich is a collection of diverse historical sites. The sites are the National Maritime Museum, Cutty Sark, the Royal Observatory, and the Queen's House. Each of these sites has a unique identity and a common purpose to serve our communities, through sharing our collections and expertise. We are a place to explore the sea, space, art and history, and our strategy 'Charting Our Course' puts people at the core of its success.

First Light

This is a very exciting period in the history of the Royal Observatory Greenwich as we embark on a once in a generation redevelopment project – First Light. This project will increase access to the Royal Observatory Greenwich: financially, culturally, physically and intellectually, and will enable us to share our passion for astronomy and wonderfully rich history with our visitors in a more united and impactful way. The Astronomy department has temporarily relocated from the Royal Observatory Greenwich to the National Maritime Museum, where programming is already underway. We're now preparing to launch an expanded and enhanced programme of activities soon. In 2028, the team will return to a restored and revitalised site at the Royal Observatory, ready to begin an exciting new chapter.

Our Astronomy Presenters help visitors engage with all that the Observatory has to offer, wherever we are.

One of the things that makes our Planetarium experience truly unique is that all our shows are presented live. Audiences consistently tell us how much they value the chance to explore the night sky and astronomy with an astronomer who can answer their questions and turn a shared moment under the dome into something unforgettable. We are launching an exciting new programme of shows in the Planetarium as part of the Astronomers Take Over experience at the National Maritime Museum. As an Astronomy Presenter, Planetarium, you will be at the heart of this new chapter.

In this role, you'll guide audiences through immersive journeys across the Universe, weaving together stories, science, and your own astronomical passions. Our flexible live‑show format gives you the freedom to showcase your knowledge and interests while creating space for visitors' questions, ideas, and moments of wonder. If you're excited by the idea of inspiring audiences in one of the most magical environments an astronomer can work in, this is the role for you.

Diversity and Inclusion

Diversity and inclusion are integral to our work at Royal Museums Greenwich, as we are a museum for everyone. We want to foster a spirit of inclusion, collaborative working, innovation, and valuing people as individuals whose lives have been shaped by different experiences. Therefore, we welcome applications from everyone.

We actively work with the Disability Confident scheme and ask that you let us know if there are any reasonable adjustments you need or things you would like us to know during the interview process, which may include being provided with the interview questions in advance, requiring a step free interview space, that you are eye‑contact avoidant, or having the interview questions in a written format or additional time in timed tests, interviews or other assessment activities.
