Energy Systems Modelling Engineer

Job Title: Energy Systems Modelling Engineer

Term: Full time employment

Salary: On application and dependent on experience

Location: Glasgow (80 St Vincent Street) or Edinburgh (Stobo House, Midlothian Innovation Centre, Roslin) with travel expected to site, as required.

The Company:

Green Cat Hydrogen Limited (GCH) is a dynamic and innovative green hydrogen project developer. We focus on the deployment of electrolytic hydrogen projects as a key part of the global energy transition and de-carbonisation strategy. We work closely with our sister companies through the planning, permitting/licensing, engineering and design and construction of green hydrogen projects.

Our growing team offers a dynamic and supportive work environment, with broad exposure across the business and scope for career progression.

The Role:

* The primary responsibility of the role is developing and updating our in-house modelling capabilities in a wide variety of areas, including hydrogen production modelling, energy market analysis and the development of engineering models with subject matter experts.
* Given the technical nature of these quantitative tasks it is essential that the candidate has experience of modelling real world phenomena in code, ideally covering topics such as renewable energy or energy systems.
* In this role you could find yourself working on tasks that require developing a fundamental understanding of the hydrogen industry and energy system, then applying strong problem-solving skills as part of a multidisciplinary team to solve complex real-world problems, while also being able to independently present and drive initiatives forward.

The Candidate must have:

* Minimum Bachelor's (or equivalent level) degree, with a greater portfolio of work required by less qualified candidates to demonstrate technical competence.
* Python programming & software engineering capability: Strong proficiency in Python with ability to write clean, efficient and maintainable code. Experience with numerical and scientific computing libraries e.g. NumPy, SciPy and Pandas and familiarity with simulation modelling frameworks (e.g. SimPy) and object-oriented design principles.'
* Simulation modelling & energy systems experience: Building and implementing simulation models and the ability to translate subject matter expertise into computational algorithms to solve complex problems.
* Data Manipulation skills: Competency working with time-series datasets, preparing hourly/sub-hourly data for energy systems simulation models.
* Experience with Git for version control.
* Microsoft Excel competency to process datasets and export modelling results for analysis by the broader team.
* Strong organisational and multitasking skills.
* Effective communication skills, both for collaborating with team members and for explaining technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
* A growth mindset, being adaptable and willing to take on a variety of tasks, extending capabilities across pure coding tasks.
* Great team working skills and a desire to work in a multidisciplinary team.
* The right to work in the United Kingdom, full-time, in perpetuity.

The Candidate would benefit from:

* Renewable energy knowledge: While not mandatory, candidates with knowledge of renewable energy technologies, such as solar, wind, or hydropower, may have an advantage in understanding and developing in-house models and tools.
* Energy system knowledge, such as an understanding of power flows, demand and supply and the sourcing and implementation of these datasets for modelling is highly advantageous.
* Portfolio or project experience: We encourage candidates to showcase relevant projects or simulations they have worked on, especially if they have experience in the renewable energy sector.
* Ability to work independently and set own targets, while being part of a broader team.

The employment package:

* Competitive salary, negotiated depending on qualifications, experience, and skills.
* Private Medical Healthcare
* 25 Days annual leave and 8 flexible bank holidays
* Cycle to work scheme
* Professional development opportunities and support.
* Professional fees paid for by the company.
* Company social events and team building days.
* On-site parking with EV charging points available to staff.
* Flexible working opportunities

Please submit your application including:

* Cover Letter (no page limit); and CV (maximum 3 pages),
* GitHub account/work portfolio.

We will only be able to contact those applicants who have been selected for interviews. GCH reserve the right to close this posting early if the right candidate is identified.

Thank you for your interest and consideration.
