About the role:
The Instructional Designer / Copy Writer role at PurpleMedia is involved at all stages of our projects. You'll receive the initial client briefing, source content and learning objectives and will need to be able to quickly and accurately digest and understand the learning need, while working with our creative and production departments to develop creative approach that will bring the content to life in a memorable and impactful way.
You will need to build strong relationships with client subject-matter experts to ensure that you understand our clients' content, brands, values and also the needs and working environments of their learners, before working to ensure that these are accurately reflected throughout the content we create. Regular contact with our clients means you'll need to be professional and reliable while creating effective relationships with people of all levels: from CEOs to Customer Service Representatives. Also, our clients are global in nature, so awareness of, and sensitivity towards, different cultures is vital.
You will need strong written English skills with the ability to understand, simplify and clearly express a range of different content: from technical information to cultural and behavioural programmes. You will also need to be able to arrange source content into clear learning journeys, as well as using your storytelling skills to bring the learning to life.
Finally, you'll need to be a collaborative worker, able to engage with the different departments in our business that all work together to create amazing results.
Where you will work
Remote, hybrid or on‑site at our Northampton studio. We are flexible on location. Regular overlap with UK working hours is required for workshops and reviews.

What you will do
· Turn complex source material into clear learning journeys and memorable stories.
· Shape objectives with clients, define "what's in it for me" and agree how success will be measured.
· Write scripts, storyboards and copy that fit brand voice and tone.
· Partner with design, animation and production to bring content to life and keep learners engaged.
· Use AI tools responsibly for research, outlining, variant generation and QA, protecting voice and accuracy.
· Review work with the team, incorporate feedback and keep projects on brief, on budget and on time.
· Occasionally travel to client sites for key workshops or reviews.
What you will bring
· A portfolio that shows instructional writing or content design with clarity, structure and narrative flow.
· Solid grasp of adult learning principles and when to use scenarios, microlearning and performance support.
· Excellent written and verbal English. You can simplify technical content without losing meaning.
· Confidence with stakeholders from SMEs to senior leaders, plus genuine empathy for learners.
· Curiosity, pace and a growth mindset. You are comfortable learning new tools.
Nice to have
· Learning campaign experience: emails, nudges, teaser scripts, posters or internal comms toolkits.
· Experience with rapid authoring, motion, or video workflows.
· Prompt craft and evaluation for LLMs, plus familiarity with at least one AI video or image tool.
Our stack
We use Microsoft 365 and a mix of creative and authoring tools. None are mandatory on day one. If you are willing to learn, we will teach our stack.
