Graduate Accountant (Not Your Typical Role)
📍 Sussex
đź’Ľ Full-Time
đź’° Competitive + Fast Progression
We’re not looking for an accountant.
We’re looking for someone who wants to understand how a business actually works.
At Sussex Structural Engineers and STAAC, we’re building something different:
👉 A company where engineering doesn’t stop at drawings—it continues on site
👉 A business that is scaling fast
👉 A team that values ownership over box-ticking
If you want a safe, predictable graduate role…
This isn’t it.
What makes this different
You won’t just be:
* Posting invoices
* Reconciling spreadsheets
* Waiting years to “move up”
Instead, you’ll be:
* Sitting close to decision-making
* Seeing how projects actually make (or lose) money
* Understanding cashflow in a real construction business
* Helping shape how we grow
You’ll learn faster here in 6 months than most roles teach in 2 years.
What you’ll actually do
Work inside Xero (and go beyond it)
* Track real project costs and margins
* Support management accounts and reporting
* Assist with VAT returns and financial controls
* Get involved in budgeting and forecasting
* Speak with engineers, designers, and directors—not just spreadsheets
Who this is for
* You’ve got a degree in Accounting / Finance (or similar)
* You’re ambitious and don’t want to be average
* You ask why, not just what
* You want to grow into a key person in a business—not just another employee
Who this is NOT for
* Someone who wants a quiet, low-responsibility role
* Someone who needs constant hand-holding
* Someone happy doing the same thing for the next 3 years
What you get
* A real progression path (not just promises)
* Direct exposure to how a growing company operates
* Mentorship from people building the business
* A role that actually evolves as you do
The honest bit
This role will challenge you.
But if you’re the right person, it will also accelerate your career massively.
