Security Manager / Security Lead (FSC / List X Environment) Bristol Based - Hybrid UK Defence Sector
We’re looking for an experienced Security Lead to take ownership of security governance, compliance, and assurance within a highly regulated defence contractor environment.
This is a pivotal role focused on oversight, compliance, and stakeholder engagement—not hands‑on delivery across every security discipline. You’ll ensure the organisation meets stringent government and MOD requirements while safeguarding people, information, and assets.
The Role
You’ll lead on the provision of security advice and support across the business, ensuring compliance with all relevant policies, standards, and frameworks.
Key responsibilities include:
* Providing expert guidance on FSC / List X (F1686), SALs, CSM/DCC and wider defence security frameworks
* Acting as the focal point for security compliance across bids, contracts, and enterprise activities
* Managing and supporting security audits (internal & external)
* Overseeing physical, personnel, and information security governance
* Owning and managing security risk frameworks and incident response
* Supporting ISO 27001 / ISMS activities and audits
* Ensuring robust security policies, procedures, and BMS governance
* Engaging confidently with MOD, ISAC, auditors, and key stakeholders
* Driving a strong security culture through training and awareness
What We’re Looking For
* Proven experience within a defence contractor / List X / FSC environment
Strong understanding of:
* FSC governance & compliance
* Security Aspects Letters (SALs)
* Personnel security & vetting requirements
* Handling classified information
* Security audits & regulatory compliance
* Ability to interpret frameworks and provide oversight, rather than deliver every function directly
* Confidence engaging with MOD stakeholders, auditors, and customers
Nice to Have
* Exposure to ISO 27001 / ISMS
* Knowledge of DCC, physical security systems (CCTV, access control)
* Experience working across multi-disciplinary security teams
