Role and project
Are you enthusiastic about supporting the health and wellbeing (HWB) of staff and looking for a new challenge? An exciting opportunity has arisen to expand the Staff Health and Wellbeing team which sits within the wider Occupational Health and Wellbeing Multidisciplinary Team. The post holder will create, promote and oversee a project to deliver a new staff preventative health programme, including the formation of two distinct HWB support pathways: 1) Diabetes prevention pathway 2) Work-related stress management pathway. The post is a fixed term contract until 31st March 2027, emphasising the creation of standard operating procedures (SOPs) and establishing future-proof administrative processes and onward referral pathways to embed both pathways into business as usual activities. The post holder will engage with staff to ensure good utilisation and attendance to fulfil outcome measures for the project. The successful applicant will report to the Staff HWB Lead and work closely with colleagues from the wider Occupational Health and Wellbeing Multidisciplinary Team. The post holder will act as project lead for the duration of the fixed-term programme and will deliver on aspects of each pathway, including diabetes testing, result interpretation and the introduction and administration involved with the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) Stress Indicator Toolkit (SIT).
Responsibilities
* Develop and deliver an internal diabetes prevention pathway aligned with national best practice guidance and agreed with the local integrated Care Board (ICB) clinical lead for Diabetes.
* Establish a series of standard operating procedures for each test (e.g., capillary blood sampling for blood glucose and/or HbA1c).
* Ensure point of care testing / quality control measures are in place and recorded as per manufacturers schedule and local policy (e.g., equipment calibration and documentation).
* Use clinical knowledge to interpret health information and measurements holistically and communicate the clinical significance, providing appropriate advice.
* Work autonomously to have sensitive conversations with staff about diabetes risk results, using motivational interviewing to encourage behavior change where appropriate.
* Establish evidence-based threshold values triggering onward referral to NDPP or GP as needed.
* Promote and deliver a schedule of appointments covering a range of days and times to meet staff needs across sites.
* Monitor appointment uptake and collaborate to achieve high utilisation of available appointments.
* Identify areas for health education for diabetes prevention and participate in health promotion programmes.
* Comply with professional, ethical and legal codes and Trust protocols.
* Maintain high professional standards, cleanliness, and a well maintained working environment.
* Assess, plan, implement and evaluate the needs of staff attending appointments.
* Deliver the diabetes prevention pathway autonomously and use problem-solving skills as needed (e.g., arranging equipment repairs).
* Maintain concise, accurate, timely records.
* Demonstrate analytical ability and sound decision making in changing clinical situations.
* Develop insight into evidence underpinning care and current health promotion advice.
* Develop clinical, technical and interpersonal skills to become a competent practitioner and work toward appropriate competencies.
* Lead and co-ordinate implementation of local guidelines for both project pathways; collaborate with stakeholders to ensure awareness of the programme's benefits.
* Develop and regularly review a targeted communications plan to maximise uptake into both pathways.
* Record, collate and distribute meeting minutes; update action logs from project steering group meetings.
* Support compliance with requirements set by Royal Berks Charity and NHS Charities Together as part of project funding.
* Coordinate with IT to provide accessible booking systems for both pathways.
* Monitor quality of care through risk management, incident reporting, complaints, research and clinical audits; conduct data extraction and reporting to identify trends.
* Utilise Microsoft Office to produce reports with formulas, pivot tables, GANTT charts and charts for regular updates to the Steering Group.
* Promote quality in own actions and contribute to service improvement.
* Manage allocated financial resources within the project budget; ensure data protection, confidentiality, and Caldicott principles are followed.
* Ensure stock and consumables are available to support both pathways.
* Promote equity, diversity, inclusion and accessibility in pathway delivery.
Teaching and Training
* Assist in developing a culture within Occupational Health and Wellbeing that promotes high-quality thinking and continuous improvement.
* Work with the team to develop effective teaching, training and development for staff engaging with the preventative health programme.
Personal Development
* Responsible for own continuing professional development and performance; maintain your portfolio and re-registration requirements if applicable.
* Identify development needs and set personal objectives aligned with current practice and future plans.
The role requires an individual with existing project management experience who can work independently and safely apply project management methodology to deliver defined outcomes on time and within budget.
Qualifications
* Registered Nurse (Part 1/12) OR post-graduate qualification in Health Promotion / Public Health OR similar qualification
* Project/business management qualification (e.g., PMP, Chartered Management Degree Apprenticeship, PRINCE2) OR similar
* Evidence of continued professional development (CPD)
Desirable criteria
* Awareness of type 2 diabetes measurement and diagnosis procedures, including local and national pathways for diabetes prevention/management
* Awareness of HSE domains of work-related stress and standards for managing work-related stress (e.g., stress risk assessments, SIT); computer literacy with MS Office
* Demonstrable project management experience with budget-conscious delivery and achievement of outcomes
* Experience creating SOPs that comply with guidance and best practice
* Experience working autonomously or within a team to achieve objectives
* Experience with clinical records management and booking systems
* Experience delivering health checks and making onward referrals
* Experience working with clinical equipment, calibration, and cleaning
* Awareness of health inequalities; ability to handle difficult conversations empathetically
* Ability to explain clinical significance of health measurements in lay terms
* Ability to write clear reports and communications for diverse audiences
* Strong communication skills across staff groups; ability to handle confidential information
* Knowledge of diabetes risk thresholds and ability to analyse health data to identify trends
* Experience collaborating with internal communications for staff plans; Canva or similar software experience for posters and communications
