Position: Head of Policy and Advocacy
Type: Maternity Cover (12 months)
Salary: £54,000 p/a pro rata (client is looking for either 4 or 5 days a week)
Work Arrangement: Hybrid, three days in the office
We are recruiting a Head of Advocacy and Policy for a Norwich-based charity focused on ending hunger and malnutrition internationally.
This is a one-year fixed-term contract providing maternity cover.
The successful candidate will have experience working with senior politicians, opinion formers, and other high-profile stakeholders. A keen understanding of international development policy, as well as parliament and its processes, is essential. Previous experience in international development or a related field is preferable but not essential.
You will be responsible for advocacy and policy work within the organization, requiring a highly motivated self-starter, comfortable operating in a fast-paced environment with a high degree of autonomy.
Reporting to the Chief Executive, you should demonstrate a track record of working effectively with senior stakeholders and delivering as part of a team.
Required skills and experience:
* Experience at a senior level in public affairs, advocacy, and/or policy roles.
* Excellent understanding of UK politics and international development policy.
* Experience working with politicians to promote organizations, raise awareness, and achieve public policy outcomes.
* Ability to work with high-profile stakeholders and develop advocates for the organization.
* Excellent project management skills.
* Proven ability to work effectively within a team and manage senior stakeholders.
Responsibilities include:
* Managing and implementing advocacy and policy strategies and programs.
* Coordinating the work of an APPG.
* Organizing domestic and international visits to promote the organization’s work and raise awareness about ending malnutrition and hunger.
* Identifying opportunities for leadership to speak publicly on relevant issues.
* Building relationships with government officials, ministers, MPs, and sector stakeholders.
* Drafting parliamentary questions, correspondence, submissions, and event reports.
* Commissioning polling and research in partnership with the Head of Campaigns and Communications, providing political and policy analysis.
Terms and Conditions: The role is a fixed-term maternity cover (12 months). It is full-time, based on a minimum of three days in the office in London Bridge, with flexible working arrangements considered. Salary is £54,000 plus a generous benefits package.
