Led by DCI Adam Smith, the Operations Team provides investigative and surveillance support for complex serious organised crime investigations. This includes fully adopting cases, starting from initial intelligence through to enforcement and prosecution. The team also provides dynamic operation support to forces and national law enforcement partners.

From its bases near Bristol and Exeter the team proactively builds investigations against the highest risk Organised Crime Groups (OCGs) in the South West. The Team deploys numerous covert tactics to obtain independent evidence, build a case and ultimately present the evidence to the CPS and courts. A core case team is established for each investigation, with key roles allocated to team members such as OIC, Exhibits, Disclosure and Covert Authority Submissions.

The Operations Team comprises of investigators (PIP2) who are also accredited surveillance officers (Q1) and this post is open to constables who currently hold both qualifications.

Skills, experience and qualifications required:

* Detective Constables with PiP2 Investigative Accreditation
* Evidence of tackling crime through proactive methods
* Ability to communicate effectively (team, partners, CPS, law enforcement agencies, etc.)
* Detective Constables with Q1 Surveillance Qualification

Vetting and safeguarding

This post is subject to a higher security clearance at MV and SC – Management Vetting and Security Clearance Level.

To be eligible to apply for this role you must have a five-year ‘checkable history’ in the UK – ideally this means that you would have been resident in the UK for the last five years.

Police Barred and Advisory lists

Individuals placed on the Police Barred and Advisory lists will not be considered for employment by the police for a minimum of five years from the date of listing in the case of gross misconduct, or three years from the date of listing in the case of poor performance.
