Independent Football Regulator – Non‑Executive Board Members
The Department for Culture, Media and Sport is seeking to appoint four Non‑Executive Directors (NEDs) to the Independent Football Regulator (IFR) board to support the establishment of the IFR and the operationalisation of its regime.
The NEDs will assist the Chair in overseeing the set‑up of the IFR, embedding its regulatory regime, and supporting the Chair in ensuring the IFR effectively fulfils its statutory objectives.
Responsibilities include:
* Overseeing the IFR setup and governance;
* Developing and promoting the IFR while acting in its best interests;
* Contributing to the strategic direction of the IFR and maintaining relationships with government, Parliament, football bodies and other stakeholders;
* Holding the CEO and executive team accountable for performance;
* Providing independent oversight, guidance and challenge at Board level within non‑executive boundaries.
All candidates must demonstrate the following:
* Knowledge: a clear understanding of the IFR’s work, challenges and context and a commitment to its statutory objectives;
* Experience: a strong track record of governance and/or strategic leadership in the private, public or voluntary sector;
* Relationship: the ability to build strong stakeholder relationships with government representatives, senior officials and external stakeholders;
* Communication: strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to listen, accept challenges and constructively challenge others in discussion;
* Judgement: effective decision‑making skills with the ability to critically analyse a wide range of information, including confidential or sensitive material, to make objective evidence‑based recommendations;
* Collaboration: the ability to work closely with the senior executive and other key internal stakeholders, providing support, constructive challenge and assurance as appropriate;
* Commitment to diversity, equality and inclusion: factoring nationwide perspectives into decision making and promoting the economic and social value of football.
Additional criteria:
* Senior experience in the football industry;
* Law enforcement, national security, illicit finance or cyber security expertise;
* Investment banking, asset management, capital markets or similar experience;
* Experience setting up an organisation to operate at a national or significant scale.
