About the role
We have an exciting opportunity for a Chief Accountant.
North Northamptonshire Council was established in 2021, uniting four districts and half of a county council to form one of the largest unitary councils in the country.
We are seeking an exceptionally talented and enthusiastic individual to support the Assistant Director of Finance & Accountancy with the accountancy functions, including closing the Council's accounts, producing the Statement of Accounts, and ensuring effective financial governance and controls. You will also play a key role across the organization in supporting Executive Directors, Assistant Directors, and Service Managers in managing the Council's finances.
Our leadership network fosters a supportive "one-Council" culture, which is central to our approach and essential for building the foundations needed for future service improvements.
What will you be doing?
Key responsibilities of the Chief Accountant will include:
1. Supporting the Assistant Director of Finance & Accountancy in accountancy functions
2. Closing the Council's accounts
3. Producing the Statement of Accounts
4. Ensuring overall financial governance with effective controls
5. Supporting organizational leaders in financial stewardship
