Data and Monitoring Officer – Hadrians Wall Wetlands Landscape Recovery Project Based at Hexham, Northumberland with some home working 37 hours per week Fixed term contract to 30/6/26 £33,366 - £37,035 per annum Do you want to help shape one of Europe’s most important wetland restoration projects? Are you passionate about harnessing data to drive nature recovery? This is a rare opportunity to work at the forefront of the UK’s nature recovery agenda, in one of its most iconic and biologically rich landscapes. You’ll join a passionate, collaborative team dedicated to creating real, measurable impact for nature and people. We are seeking a Data and Monitoring Officer to lead the development and delivery of monitoring and evaluation plans for the Hadrian’s Wall Wetlands Landscape Recovery Project – a pioneering, landscape-scale initiative working with farmers, landowners and communities to restore vital wetland habitats along the iconic Hadrian’s Wall corridor. The Roman Wall Loughs and surrounding peat bogs, grasslands, and moorlands form an internationally significant landscape, protected by multiple designations including NNR, SAC, SSSI, and UNESCO World Heritage Site status. Through this project, we are building a long-term, evidence-led model for nature recovery that supports both ecological and community wellbeing. As Data and Monitoring Officer, you will: Develop and implement robust, industry-standard (and where needed, innovative) monitoring frameworks across ecological, social, economic and wellbeing indicators. Manage complex datasets and use GIS, Python, R, and statistical tools to analyse and interpret findings. Collaborate with researchers, regional/national data centres, and academic institutions to develop baselines, share insights, and strengthen impact. Support the project team by supplying high-quality data, maps, and visualisations for reporting, engagement, and advocacy. You will need: Degree or equivalent experience in an environmental science/geography/conservation discipline/role Exceptional communication and reporting skills Excellent attention to detail Ability to work independently, including lone fieldwork in remote locations. Experience in environmental/ecological monitoring and spatial/non-spatial data analysis. Proficiency in managing databases and using GIS. Experience with Python and/or R for data processing and statistical analysis. If this role sounds like it’s for you, then we really would like to hear from you.
