Queen Mary’s College operates several income-generating facilities across its vibrant 25-acre campus, including a leisure centre, theatre, esports arena, recording studio and facility lettings. Whilst the college’s primary goal remains its educational objectives, there is an opportunity to increase the income and strengthen its reputation by making its facilities and activities available to the community.

Central Studio is a small, state-of-the-art theatre in Basingstoke, located on the campus of Queen Mary's College. The Studio hosts a wealth of events and performances including, comedy, dance, drama, live music, children's theatre and interactive workshops. Central Studio has been specifically designed to provide space as well as entertainment to the community, and with a large variety of different spaces available, the venue is suitable to cater for commercial, professional, amateur and community performances, arts and educational organisations, dance schools, conferences, training sessions, meetings, parties, rehearsals and more.

JOB PURPOSE

To assist with the delivery of bar and front of house services within Central Studio and QM Hall venues. To comply with related laws and good practice.

IDEAL CANDIDATE

We are looking for an enthusiastic and dependable bar staff who strive to deliver excellent customer service. You need to be confident and ready to get stuck into everything with a can-do attitude.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

The ideal applicant for this role is someone wishing to gain further experience in the leisure and hospitality sector. The role is fast-paced, so you will need to match this with energy and enthusiasm.

• An interest in the entertainment and hospitality sector

• The ability to work independently and use initiative

• You should be willing and available to work evenings and weekends

• The ability to pay attention to detail

• Computer literate and experienced using a POS or leisure management system

• Ideally, you should have experience in bar, retail or hospitality work

JOB DESCRIPTION

Accountable to: Licensee and Commercial Operations Manager

Key outcomes

• A high level of customer service

• Maintain a healthy and safe working environment

• A high degree of efficiency and accuracy in serving customers or handling cash

Bar

• To serve customers with beverages and confectionery before, during the interval and after all performances in either the Central Studio or Queen Mary’s Hall bars

• To cover the bar for the duration of the performance

• To prepare interval drinks as and when required

• To maintain the cleanliness of the bar and foyer area throughout the performance

• To thoroughly clean the bar foyer area and dispose of bottles at the close of business

• To restock the drinks coolers to ensure the bar is always fully stocked

• To advise the Commercial Operations Manager and Licensee of any stock deficiencies

• To carry out cleaning of bar equipment as and when required

• To carry out any other duty as may reasonably be requested by the Commercial Operations Manager

Front of House

• To ensure a high level of customer service during performances

• To liaise with the performers and technicians to ensure that all shows are performed in a healthy and safe environment, ensure they start on time and run as smoothly as possible

• To act upon, or refer to the Commercial Operations Manager, any comments or issues raised by customers

• To assist in ensuring that building security is maintained in all Front of House and Back Stage areas throughout the show, within procedures detailed in Central Studio’s operational guidelines

• To assist with the complete evacuation of the public spaces of Central Studio or QM Hall should the necessity arise
