About the role We are seeking a committed and compassionate Specialist Mental Health and Wellbeing Mentor to enhance our whole-college approach to mental health. In this pivotal role, you will provide early intervention, targeted support and wellbeing guidance to our learners, while contributing to staff development and supporting the delivery of the Youth Trailblazer Programme. You will work closely with students aged 16–25, offering 1:1 and group interventions, completing holistic assessments and providing support for those experiencing emotional distress or mental health challenges. In addition, you will deliver staff training, contribute to safeguarding processes and act as a key liaison between the College and external mental health services. This post requires an experienced practitioner with strong leadership qualities and a passion for embedding trauma-informed, inclusive and preventative practice across Further Education. Key Responsibilities Student Mental Health Support Manage a caseload of learners requiring targeted intervention. Deliver 1:1 and group wellbeing sessions using evidence-based approaches. Conduct holistic and risk assessments, including suicide and self-harm concerns. Create and review wellbeing support plans in collaboration with students and staff. Provide crisis support and de-escalation where required. Help students build resilience, coping strategies and positive mental health habits. Support transitions for vulnerable and SEND learners. Staff Support & CPD Deliver mental health awareness training and CPD. Offer professional guidance on managing student mental health needs. Support staff wellbeing through advice, resources and signposting. Contribute to staff mental health toolkits and resources. Promote psychologically safe learning environments across college spaces. Safeguarding & Multi-Agency Work Work closely with the Designated Safeguarding Lead and team. Attend multi-agency meetings including TAC/TAF and case conferences. Liaise with CAMHS, NHS services, GPs, social care and voluntary organisations. Support referrals and monitor outcomes. Ensure compliance with safeguarding, mental health protocols and GDPR. Strategic & Development Work Support the delivery of the College’s mental health strategy. Contribute to evaluation of the Youth Trailblazer programme. Support wellbeing campaigns, events and service improvement initiatives. Contribute to quality assurance processes and reflective practice. Leadership & Mentoring Provide advice to junior wellbeing staff. Support student ambassadors and peer support programmes. Participate in supervision and reflective practice forums.
