Main Purpose of the Job
To manage activities within the PCS Analysis Room, which include Spark Plug, Fuel Injector & Pump Teardown, Measurement and Photography. Documentation of analysis to support Engineering Projects and Investigation. Development of processes and completion of supporting documentation in the Analysis Room to meet Quality, Training and Audit requirements.
Main Tasks of the Job
Day-to-day running of PCS Analysis Room to support returned parts analysis. This will include:
* Teardown, measurement & photography of returned parts and completing of necessary documentation to report activity to Engineering Section.
* Review, create and update process documentation, as required, to support the processes & equipment within the Analysis Room.
* Development of existing processes to achieve efficiency and quality improvements.
* Liaison with customers (internal Engineering staff) to agree work deliverables and schedules.
* Liaison with suppliers (GA Dept., and external contractors / suppliers), as required to achieve effective & efficient operation of the Analysis Room.
* Basic maintenance, fault finding, & problem solving of relevant equipment.
* H&S and Environmental compliance aspects, as relevant.
* Close working with other test staff to develop consistent methods and processes.
* Supporting work for introduction of new test rigs if/when required, to expand DSUK testing capability.
* The technician will also be expected to support other areas of Facilities section as needed during busy periods, and to provide holiday / sickness cover
Specific Responsibilities
Personnel: No direct reports. Responsible for own workload and activities to ensure completion of agreed tasks, in cooperation with the responsible Engineer / Manager for this area.
Resources: To manage the day-to-day operation and use of the test equipment and rigs. To liaise with suppliers as needed, under the direction of relevant Manager.
Planning: Short term planning and control of day-to-day workload to ensure completion of all agreed work to time and quality targets. Needs to be able to prioritise activity and be flexible in approach making sure that all activity is aligned to requested deliverables and schedules. Planning of work and associated maintenance, including supplier liaison to agree costs and deliverables.
Decisions: Needs to be able to deliver required work, determined through alignment with Line Manager, with the minimum of input (good ownership). Needs to be proactive in reporting, exhibiting good communication to demonstrate alignment.
Supervision
Reporting to the PCS Manager.
Contacts
Internal: Working with other Test Facilities technicians, and engineering staff. Mainly DNUK PCS Engineering as customer, plus GA Dept. for maintenance and H&S issues, and occasionally with other internal depts.
External:
* Customer Engineers visiting DNUK for testing purposes (occasionally).
* Other test facilities (outside DENSO), test equipment suppliers, H&S / Environmental suppliers (occasionally)
Qualifications
Essential: Apprenticeship, HNC or equivalent in Mechanical or Automotive Engineering.
Desirable: Degree or Equivalent in Mechanical, Automotive or Electronics Engineering.
Additional Information
Working Conditions:
Based at the PCS Engineering office in Coventry working in the Analysis Room in Facilities area. Facility includes open-plan office area, laboratory, chassis dyno and engine test bed / rig facilities. Possible occasional travel within UK or EU, to visit suppliers / subcontractors and other test facilities. Possible occasional travel outside UK to visit other DENSO locations.
