Job Description – Electrical Supervisor (Housing)

Hours: 37 per week
Purpose of the Role
To lead and supervise the council’s electrical maintenance and compliance service within housing stock, ensuring all electrical works are delivered safely, efficiently, and in line with current regulations and standards.
You will be responsible for overseeing day-to-day electrical contracts, managing a small team, and ensuring all work across council properties is fully compliant, certified, and completed to a high standard.
Key Responsibilities
* Supervise and manage a team of electricians delivering repairs, maintenance, and installation works
* Oversee electrical compliance activities including fire alarms, emergency lighting, and communal systems
* Act as Electrical Qualifying Supervisor, ensuring all work meets BS7671 (18th Edition) and relevant legislation
* Carry out inspections, quality checks, and audits on electrical works and certification
* Ensure compliance with ELECSA (or equivalent) registration requirements and standards
* Manage electrical contracts (capital and revenue works), including monitoring contractor performanceSign off electrical certification and ensure accurate recording of inspection and testing results
* Investigate and resolve electrical faults, complaints, and service issues
* Support training, development, and competency assessment of electrical staff and apprentices
* Ensure health & safety compliance across all work, including PPE, risk assessments, and safe systems of work
* Liaise with housing teams, contractors, and stakeholders to deliver effective customer-focused services
* Contribute to service improvement, performance monitoring, and continuous development of the electrical service
* Participate in audits and prepare for external inspections and compliance reviews
Person Requirements (Summary)
* Strong background in electrical installation, maintenance, and fault finding
* Extensive knowledge of BS7671, electrical regulations, and housing compliance standards
* Experience in supervising or managing electrical teams or contractors
* Testing and inspection qualification (e.g. 2391 or equivalent)
* Ability to manage compliance, certification, and quality assurance processes
* Strong understanding of health & safety legislation in electrical environments
* Experience working in social housing or local authority environments (desirable)
* Full UK driving licence
