Antenatal & Newborn Screening Midwife

An exciting opportunity for a Band 6 midwife (minimum 2 years experience) to work within the Antenatal and Newborn Screening team. The position is a part‑time role of 23.45 hours per week, with working hours Monday to Friday, varied shifts between 8 am and 6 pm. Candidates should be interested in all aspects of the antenatal and newborn screening programmes.

Main duties of the job
* Support Antenatal and Newborn Screening Coordinators in delivering national programmes.
* Engage in audit, practice change and development, national and local data collection, quarterly KPI and annual data submissions.
* Contribute to annual reports, education and training of registered and non‑registered staff.
* Monitor and act on national screening programme failsafes.
* Attend national and local meetings.
* Provide counselling and obtain consent from women and parents for screening programmes.
* Counsel women following a positive or high‑chance screening result, or unexpected fetal findings.
* Communicate effectively with multidisciplinary team members.
* Support women with positive infectious disease screening results (syphilis, Hep B, HIV) and fulfill national data submission requirements.
* Train midwives and students, supervise, and develop research‑based skills.
* Assist in developing and implementing policies, initiating practice change, and seeking patient feedback.
* Contribute to risk reduction and quality control, support ward and community midwives, and report incidents per NHS guidance.
Training and Qualifications
* Registered Midwife, Band 6.
* Teaching & Assessing Qualification and Mentoring Course.
* Continuous personal & professional development.
* Experience working with HIV‑positive pregnant women (NIPE qualification, Pegasus / Genetic Risk Assessment and Counselling course).
* Degree in health‑related subject.
* Antenatal Screening Module.
Experience
* Minimum 3 years at Band 6.
* Supervision and mentor non‑registered staff & students.
* Empathetic communication of sensitive information.
* Knowledge of PHE national requirements.
* MDT experience and audit/service development evidence.
Communication and Relationship Skills
* Effective written and verbal communication; accurate records.
* IT skills: Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams.
* Teamworking and professional collaboration.
* Active member of multidisciplinary meetings.
Analytical and Judgement Skills
* Assess, plan, deliver, prioritise, evaluate patient care.
* Identify learning needs; responsive to team needs.
* Data collection and analysis; audit/research qualification.
* Prioritise workload, local objectives, action plans.
* Leadership and initiative.
Physical Skills
* Physically able to perform full range of Midwifery duties; sit at a desk for long periods.
Other Requirements
* Up‑to‑date knowledge of midwifery topics; audit, risk management, clinical standards.
* Enthusiasm for development of practice and commitment to women‑centred care.
* Experience reporting and investigating incidents.
* Successful implementation and management of change processes.

Salary
