NICU Support Manager – North Bristol NHS Trust

Job Overview

The post holder is responsible for first line management of administrative staff in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and has key responsibility for co‑coordinating and monitoring NICU activity. The role works closely with clinical staff and the general manager to ensure a safe and well‑led service.


Main Responsibilities

* Provide effective leadership to promote a high quality, motivated team.
* Maintain quality data and reporting on neonatal activity and outcomes.
* Assist in timely production and audit of national statutory data returns.
* Participate in the single point of contact rota for the division.
* Investigate ad‑hoc queries, concerns and complaints from patients and support the senior management team in responding within the Trust’s complaints procedure and timescales.
* Hold administrative responsibility for NICU and paediatric outpatients.
* Undertake other duties appropriate to the post, as agreed by senior management.


Person Specification


Education / Training / Qualifications

* Good general education including GCSEs in English and Maths.
* Advanced computer skills.
* Desirable: Degree or equivalent relevant experience; NVQ Level 4 Business Administration or ILM Level 3 Leadership and Management.


Essential Experience

* Previous direct line management experience.
* Experience working in the NHS.
* Sound knowledge of Patient Access Policy.
* Experience communicating with patients by telephone and face‑to‑face.


Desirable Experience

* Knowledge of working with outpatient teams and managing clinic utilisation.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

* Promote positive working relationships among team, colleagues and clinical staff.
* Exercise sound judgement and take responsibility for actions.
* Excellent time‑management, managerial and leadership skills.
* Ability to work under pressure, prioritise workload and meet tight deadlines.
* Willingness to learn new IT skills and technology.
* Excellent analytical skills and ability to work with large datasets (desirable).


Personal Qualities

* Excellent motivational skills.
* Skilled in building positive relationships at all levels.
* Confident and sympathetic when dealing with patients and staff.
