Asset Management - Asset Graduate Scheme at National Gas. Join to apply for the Asset Management - Asset Graduate Scheme role at National Gas.
Join us and help be the energy behind the change. National Gas is the backbone of Britain's energy system, responsible for securing the UK's energy while leading the way to a net-zero future. As the operator of Britain’s national gas transmission network, we repair and maintain gas pipelines, delivering gas safely and reliably to power stations, industries and 23 million homes. The team works to keep the gas flowing, generate power, and keep everyone connected. We are pioneering new solutions like hydrogen transmission to decarbonise energy and ensure our infrastructure powers the country as it moves to net-zero.
As a graduate joining National Gas, you’ll contribute to keeping the nation’s energy secure today while helping to build a more sustainable, net-zero energy system for tomorrow.
About the Role
Our Asset Graduates work alongside experts who shape policy for National Gas. The energy industry is changing, and our network must evolve to meet the challenge. We ensure our assets are adapted and maintained to reflect the evolving energy sector. Our assets support heating homes, running businesses, and enabling power stations to generate energy. We plan for a greener future and address environmental commitments and hydrogen considerations, delivering efficiently for bill payers.
The team is responsible for the lifecycle planning of assets—from design through decommissioning or repurposing. They set asset management strategy, build business plans, and manage risk across the network. This role blends engineering, asset management and economic modelling, placing you at the center of complex decision-making behind the UK’s gas transmission network.
During the 18-month programme, after your induction you’ll complete three 6-month placements across all teams within the Asset function to give exposure to diverse, relevant experiences and skillsets that support your career development. You’ll gain hands-on experience within the Asset Team and be supported by industry specialists from various engineering disciplines, and you’ll observe risks related to hydrogen and CO2 pipelines and how engineering teams navigate day-to-day challenges.
What You’ll Need
The Asset Management team is dynamic and multidisciplinary; you’ll learn a lot. The most important part of the job is making the right decisions at the right time for the UK, so stakeholder engagement is key. To thrive as an Asset Management Graduate, you’ll need to engage with people at various levels, assimilate information, and relay it to stakeholders clearly. You’ll work with experts across National Gas and externally to understand investment drivers and make recommendations.
Every day, you’ll solve complex problems with data-driven decisions, balancing cost, risk and benefit to determine optimal solutions. You’ll need to view problems through multiple lenses—asset management, engineering, commercial, regulatory and financial drivers—and prioritise effectively. A strong desire to deepen your understanding of the gas industry, with the confidence to question and contribute to ideas and processes, will be vital as we enhance how we work. You’ll create compelling business cases for approval; strong technical writing, negotiating and influencing skills are valuable.
We value diverse experiences and encourage applicants of all backgrounds to apply.
