Successful candidates will be appointed to either of the following dependant on their skills

· Nursing Support Worker Theatre (Band 3) - If the person specification is met and experience supports appointment

· Nursing Support Worker Theatre - Development Role (Band 3 - Annex 21) as set out within the NHS Wales Terms & Conditions of Employment (please see additional information provided which explains the trainee pay arrangements known as Annex 21).

It is a condition of appointment to the development position that the required competencies are achieved within 12 months*.

On successful attainment of the competencies, you will be appointed to the full remit of the Nursing Support Worker role and will work to the complete Job Description relating to that post.

During the development period you will gain hands on experience and be supported with training to enable you to undertake the competencies required for the role. Your pay set at 75% of the pay band maximum payment of the fully qualified rate (Band 3 salary). Upon successful completion of your training, your pay will increase to the Band 3 pay scale.

If the competencies are not achieved within 12 months from appointment this will not allow for successful progression to the full Band 3 role and this may result in re-deployment.

Main duties of the job

The Senior Healthcare Assistant (Level 3) has a greater degree of autonomy than the Healthcare Assistant and undertakes a broader range of health and care in accordance with policy and procedures. The post holder will work on their own initiative, undertaking delegated tasks with appropriate supervision in place from a registered practitioner/assistant practitioner.

The Senior Healthcare Assistant (Level 3) will assist the Registered Practitioner/ Assistant Practitioner in the assessment, on-going assessment, planning, management and evaluation of care. Under direction of the Registered Practitioner/ Assistant Practitioner, supports appropriate individualised, clinical/risk assessments providing accurate feedback as necessary.

Deliver safe, high quality, compassionate care following individualised care plans and treatment interventions determined by the Registered Practitioner.
Carry out specific delegated clinical and care tasks and responsibilities to a high standard and competency, under the direction and supervision of a Registered Practitioner/ Assistant Practitioner.
Support effective theatre efficiency and flow; collect patients and escort them to theatre, checking all relevant documentation and informing registered staff where there are any deviations.

Qualification and knowledge

Essential criteria

1. Level 3 qualification in health care related subject
2. Knowledge of the Code of Conduct for Healthcare support workers in Wales and All Wales Delegation Guidelines (HEIW)
3. Knowledge of relevant policies and procedures within a healthcare setting, for example the principles of Safeguarding adults/children to keep patients within their care safe, and confidentiality, for example General Date Protection Regulations (GDPR)

Desirable criteria

4. Level 3 qualification in Perioperative support/ or equivalent qualification

Experience

Essential criteria

5. Experience of working within a relevant health or social care enviroment, providing direct patient care.

Desirable criteria

6. Experience of working with patient groups relevant to area of practice
7. Experience of working in the NHS

Skills & Attributes

Essential criteria

8. Good communication skills - verbal and written, with the ability to convey information clearly and sensitively.
9. Ability to work with minimum supervision to a high standard.
10. Ability to keep calm in stressful situations.
11. Ability to demonstrate a caring and compassionate approach.
12. Organisational skills, with the ability to plan and prioritise own and others workload efficiently.
13. Ability to use technology to undertake the role, eg Microsoft Office, virtual platforms such as TEAMS

14. Welsh Language Skills are desirable levels 1 to 5 in understanding, speaking, reading and writing in Welsh.
