Physiotherapy Technical Instructor

The closing date is 10 November 2025

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Orthopaedic in-patient team at band 4 level at Wansbeck General Hospital. The post will include working with elective orthopaedic in-patients, supporting our day case pathway for joint replacement. The role will also include supporting with the delivery of the joint replacement education sessions pre-operatively.

The successful candidate will be able to assess, treat and discharge patients independently as well as provide advice and support to patients and their family members. The post will include shift and weekend working.

Main duties of the job

* Assess, treat and discharge an independent caseload of non-complex elective orthopaedic in-patients.
* To assist Physiotherapists in the treatment of patients, working to defined protocols and treatment plans.
* Assess, issue and order necessary walking aids for patients on the elective orthopaedic wards.
* To facilitate arrangement of ongoing physiotherapy appointments as part of the discharge process.
* Work under the supervision of registered Physiotherapists.
* Work collaboratively with the multi-disciplinary team to provide a high standard of care for patients and promote the day case pathway.
* To be responsible for the cleaning and maintenance of the Physiotherapy equipment.
* To support with the education and development of the therapy assistants in the service.

Job responsibilities

* To work under the supervision of a qualified Physiotherapist to implement treatment programmes for individual patients or groups of patients.
* To assist Physiotherapists in the treatment of their patients, working to defined protocols and treatment plans.
* To carry own clinical caseload of non complex conditions.
* Demonstrate and apply the underpinning knowledge to modify and progress patient treatment programmes without direct supervision.
* To be responsible for the overall hygiene & maintenance of the department and equipment.


Person Specification


Qualifications / Professional Registration

* Possess NVQ level III or equivalent competencies
* Willing to undertake external qualification e.g. Halliwick hydrotherapy, YMCA fitness instructor
* Willing to undertake NVQ Assessors course


Experience and knowledge

* Significant experience as a Physiotherapy Assistant and previous experience as a TI 3
* Evidence of further development in current speciality e.g. Paediatrics, orthopaedics
* Knowledge of or experience in coaching and mentoring practices and tools
* Knowledge of or experience in Quality improvement tools, techniques and methods
* In -service training
* External courses
* MDT training e.g. ENB
