At Buro Happold, we are driven by a passion for creating sustainable, innovative solutions for the built environment. We are currently seeking an Interim Quality & Compliance Engineer to join our Global QHSE team on a fixed term 9–12 month maternity cover contract.
This role offers a unique opportunity to work at a global level, supporting the coordination and continuous improvement of our Integrated Management System (IMS) across more than 20 international offices.
About The Role
As a Quality & Compliance Engineer, you will play a key role in maintaining and strengthening our global certification programmes. Acting as a central coordinator, you will help ensure our systems remain robust, compliant, and audit‑ready while supporting collaboration across regions and disciplines.
You will also support the strategic relationship with our external certification/notified bodies, helping to shape future certification approaches as our global operations continue to evolve.
Key Responsibilities
* Support global ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001 certification activities across multiple international offices.
* Act as a liaison with our external certification/notified body on audit planning, multi‑site certification strategy, and future certification developments (e.g., PAS 2080, BIM/ISO 19650).
* Maintain audit schedules, certification records, scope registers, and readiness trackers.
* Coordinate internal and external audits and ensure clear communication with global office contacts.
* Track non‑conformities and corrective actions, ensuring timely closure and escalation where required.
* Identify trends and recurring issues across the IMS and support continuous improvement initiatives.
* Support offices undergoing operational changes (such as relocations) to maintain quality, environmental, and health & safety compliance.
* Prepare documentation, evidence packs, and programme‑level reporting for the Global QHSE team.
About You
* Experience working with ISO‑based management systems (ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and/or ISO 45001).
* Strong coordination, documentation, and programme management skills.
* The ability to work effectively across regions, time zones, and multidisciplinary teams.
* Confident communication and stakeholder management skills.
* Experience working with external certification bodies (desirable).
* Familiarity with the engineering, consultancy, or built environment sector (beneficial).
