Energy Advisor (Senior) – Fixed Term Up to 2 Years
Job Overview
The Environment Agency is hiring a senior Energy Advisor to support regulation and decarbonisation of the UK energy sector, including combustion plants, waste incineration and refineries. The role is a fixed‑term engagement of up to two years, based in Birmingham, with some travel required.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide expert technical support and guidance on energy sector regulation.
* Develop regulatory strategy and tools to support environmental outcomes.
* Commission and manage external research projects.
* Work collaboratively with internal teams and external stakeholders such as Defra, DESNZ, trade associations and industry partners.
* Respond to incidents and provide business continuity support when required.
Qualifications & Experience
* Evidence of experience working in or regulating the energy sector, including combustion plants, waste incineration or refinery operations.
* Technical and regulatory knowledge of control measures for emissions to air and other environmental requirements.
* Demonstrated ability to build relationships with a range of stakeholders, including government, trade bodies and academia.
* Ability to work effectively with diverse teams and promote inclusive practices.
* Strong communication skills and capacity to influence technical advice at senior levels.
* Experience working in a team and managing priorities, with a record of delivering on projects.
Contract & Location
Fixed‑term contract – up to 2 years. Based in Birmingham with occasional travel across the UK.
