This is a term-time post; the salary will be pro-rata'd to the hours worked.
The post is fixed term until 26th June 2026.
Work Pattern: Monday to Friday, 8.30am - 4.00pm (30 minutes unpaid break).
The Scottish Government believes children must have access to highly qualified staff with expertise in early childhood learning and development. This is especially true for young children facing disadvantages, where additional support may be required to support our ambition to close the attainment gap.
To support this ambition, the role has been developed to provide establishments with an additional graduate—either a qualified teacher or a graduate-level practitioner—who can enhance the quality of early learning and childcare.
This role is supernumerary to the staffing complement of ELCCs and is therefore not included in the ratios. To support the implementation of the Raising Attainment Delivery Plan, the postholders are expected to influence practice, take small groups of children, provide one-to-one support as required, focusing on literacy, numeracy, and health and wellbeing.
To ensure positive outcomes for children, they will plan engaging learning experiences to motivate children to learn through play, observe and plan responsively to identified needs, and assess and plan for children’s progress.

Requirements
This post is considered a Regulated Role under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2020, and membership with the PVG scheme is essential. Further details of this scheme can be found here. Preferred applicants will be required to become members of the relevant PVG scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check prior to a formal offer from West Dunbartonshire Council.
Responsibilities
The employment for which you are applying is excepted from the provisions of section 4(2) of the Rehabilitation of Offenders (Exceptions) Order 1975. Applicants are, therefore, not statutorily entitled to withhold information about convictions which, for other purposes, are 'spent' under the Act. Failure to disclose such convictions could result in dismissal or disciplinary action.
