Risk and Control Specialist
Approx. £100,000 | Belfast (Hybrid)
This role will assist in the build and running of a fully functioning risk and control "run the bank" framework centred around booking model and trading mandate controls. This will include implementing and operating strategic solutions to enhance and monitor controls, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and with firm Policy and Standards (e.g. legal entity authorisation, usage and trading book oversight controls) through the development, enhancement, and implementation of efficient control and supervisory tools. A key focus will be the set-up and ongoing management of processes to support and strengthen the control framework.
This is an exciting opportunity for a practically minded professional with strong knowledge of Markets business products, combined with an interest in front office risk and controls, to make a difference and help shape the future of our Global Markets business. The incumbent will work with the Business and various other groups, including Technology, Market Risk, and Finance, to deliver on strategic priorities.
Responsibilities:
* Manage the operation of front office controls to provide effective monitoring and oversight of trading activity (e.g. controls over trading books and compliance with legal entity booking authorities).
* Review existing control capabilities, develop/enhance tactical interim tools, and contribute to the design of strategic monitoring solutions.
* Ensure timely reporting of risks, with resolution and/or escalation of issues as appropriate.
* Provide innovative analysis and regular updates on the management of risks and issues.
* Conduct risk-based assessments to identify significant operational and regulatory risks, and design and implement effective controls to mitigate them.
* Develop communication and presentation materials for stakeholders, peers, and management.
* Identify control gaps and recommend enhancements to strengthen the control environment.
* Drive process improvement opportunities and support their implementation.
Qualifications and Skills:
* Undergraduate degree required.
* Strong influence management and relationship-building skills.
* Data analysis skills, including presentation of outputs (experience with tools such as SQL, Python desirable).
* Knowledge of global markets traded products, downstream processing practices, and related control principles.
* Excellent written, verbal communication, and interpersonal skills.
* Effective negotiation skills and a proactive, transparent approach to communicating issues.
* Ability to sustain independent reviews with strength and credibility.
* Global mindset with regional and product understanding.
* Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
* Proficiency with MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
