About the role
The post holder will be the senior technician in the Molecular Beam Epitaxy (MBE) facility, under the direction of the facility research lead and managed by the Research Laboratories Manager. They will manage most aspects of the installation, maintenance, and usage of MBE equipment and the associated plant.
Acting a senior operator of the MBE equipment, the postholder will be part of a team of student and staff operators, for the production of semiconductor wafers for research and commercial purposes.
In addition, they will manage and arrange the maintenance of the safety systems for the laboratory and act as coordinator for equipment & safety documentation. They will conduct training on the MBE systems and for other specialist equipment in the facility for new users.
About you
Applicants should have a degree level qualification in engineering or a related discipline. The postholder must have experience maintaining and using a variety of pumps, regulators, chillers and vacuum equipment. They should have experience of working in a cleanroom environment and a firm understanding of III-V and group-IV MBE and/or other wafer growth processes with direct practical experience. The postholder should be the main point of contact to raise issues with estates-maintained equipment, experience raising maintenance request and dealing with contractors is therefore essential.
Experience of managing, working in a supervisory capacity or in an organising role in a laboratory or research facility is desirable, as well as close familiarity with laboratory chemical safety hazards and controls.
