The role
As a Senior Power Systems Engineer, you’ll provide technical authority across a complex and safety‑critical high‑voltage and low‑voltage electrical network supporting nuclear naval vessels and essential site facilities. This is a rare opportunity to apply your power systems expertise in an environment where engineering excellence directly underpins national security.
Day-to-day, you’ll work at the forefront of electrical infrastructure, combining technical depth with accountability for availability, compliance and continuous improvement. From power system studies and fault investigation to asset management and technical assurance, your role will be both varied and highly impactful, strengthening your professional credibility while contributing to work of national importance.
1. Providing technical authority and advice for the operation and maintenance of electrical power systems
2. Undertaking power system analysis, calculations and technical studies using specialist software
3. Leading fault diagnosis, rectification and return‑to‑service testing activities
4. Maintaining electrical documentation, drawings and configuration control
5. Ensuring compliance with safety legislation, engineering standards and quality requirements
This role is full time, 35 hours per week and provides hybrid working arrangements with a minimum of 3 days per week in the office/onsite.
Essential experience of the Senior Power Systems Engineer
6. Strong understanding of electrical engineering principles and power system operation
7. Experience working with high‑voltage and low‑voltage distribution systems
8. Ability to interpret and produce electrical drawings using tools such as AutoCAD
9. Experience diagnosing complex system faults and implementing corrective actions
10. Proven ability to produce clear technical reports and engineering documentation
Qualifications for the Senior Power Systems Engineer
11. A degree in an electrical engineering discipline or an HNC with substantial relevant experience
12. Professional registration with a recognised engineering institution - Desirable
Security Clearance
The successful candidate must be a sole UK National who is able to achieve and maintain Naval Nuclear Propulsion Information (NNPPI) security clearance for this role.
