It is a journey that started on a hippy commune in Ibiza, 1970, and finished with an overland trip east, through Afghanistan and India. Now found in West London, we’re creating vibrant products, and sharing endless discovery.
In this role you will lead and drive the smart department in developing and designing original ranges in line with overall Monsoon Accessorize brand strategy for the season which is in line with the handwriting and business objectives.
What will you do as a Monsoon Designer:
Creative and Design
Trend research and Sourcing - Identify and present seasonal trends as appropriate for the Monsoon Accessorize brand including key fashion prints, embroideries. and colours for the season, and each drop. Contribute and compile to new reference material, including industry knowledge and research for the department to use throughout the season, including catwalk social trends and comp shop intel and compiling mood boards and colour palettes. Ensure identified trends and key items are completed through to sign off stage. Create unique, in-house collections which deliver newness and commerciality. Producing / creating design specs and embroidery layouts. To create beautiful first samples. Ownership of the smart category to deliver new balanced collections for the department. Passionate about smart clothing woven and jersey and delivering the best for the business. International travel may be required Critical Path Management
Responsible for critical path planning of design time for smart category Where required assist in the planning of the Critical Path for product areas, ensuring effective communication with suppliers and relevant team member Meet deadlines and the critical path People and Talent Management
Motivate and Inspire print department to support development on the smart dept Health and Safety
Ensure a safe working environment by complying with Health and Safety Guidelines and take action to deal with any issues What will you need to succeed as a Monsoon Designer:
Established Designer with creative and technical ability to design smart end-use collections Self-motivated with an ability to work under own initiative Confident and articulate communicator with an ability to build strong working relationships Ability to deliver to tight timescales and work under pressure. A good eye for smart woven product, soft and structured, with a good understanding of embroidery and embellishments. Ability to translate ideas for smart jersey alongside main collection. Fabric sourcing ability and good technical skills to develop beautiful products and first samples. Confident in presenting collections/concepts and pitching ideas across the team. Confident and versatile people skills to influence and persuade wider team to vision. Ability to demonstrate and understanding of ‘brand handwriting’ CAD Skills- Adobe Photoshop/Illustrator Quick and accurate ability to hand sketch designs, attention to detail.
