We are seeking an experienced and proactive Plant Fitter to join our Fleet team based in Wakefield, supporting our sites across the Yorkshire and North East region. As a Plant Fitter, you will play a key role in ensuring our mechanical and non-mechanical plant equipment is maintained, safe, and operational to support our projects. What You’ll Do
Maintenance & Repairs
* Carry out scheduled servicing based on operating hours
* Diagnose faults and carry out repairs on equipment such as excavators, diggers, cranes, ride-on mowers, strimmers, and hedge cutters
* Conduct safety checks and inspections on plant machinery and tools
* Maintain accurate records of work completed
Workshop & On-Site Support
* Assist with loading/unloading of plant equipment
* Carry out on-site maintenance and repairs as required
* Complete sign-off sheets and submit photographic evidence of completed work
* Maintain workshop cleanliness and ensure tools remain compliant
Inventory & Logistics
* Order necessary parts and liaise with suppliers
* Identify equipment for disposal or quarantine
* Prepare plant and equipment for hire or sale
Compliance & Safety
* Adhere to Health, Safety, and Environmental policies and procedures
* Report accidents, near misses, and non-compliance
* Use appropriate PPE and maintain high housekeeping standards
What We’re Looking For
Skills and Experience (Essential):
* NVQ Level 4 or City & Guilds Level 3 in Plant Maintenance or equivalent
* Valid CSCS Plant Operator card
* Full driving licence (max 3 penalty points)
* Experience diagnosing and repairing faults on a variety of plant and small equipment
* Computer literate
Desirable
* Forklift licence
* IRTEC Category F Licence
* Qualification in small engine repair
* Crane Supervisor, MEWP, or Banksman certifications
Personal Attributes
* Strong problem-solving and fault-finding skills
* Proactive and self-motivated with excellent time management
* Good communication skills to liaise effectively with colleagues and suppliers
* Flexible and adaptable with a positive approach to teamwork
Working Hours & Conditions
* Typical hours: 7:30am - 6:00pm (50+ hours per week)
* Overtime and occasional weekend work may be required
* Work environments: workshops, construction sites, and outdoor locations
