Role and setting
At Plean Dene in Shanklin, we provide a safe, warm, friendly and welcoming home environment for our residents, a wonderful group of 10 adults with learning disabilities and behaviours that challenge.
Our job is to ensure that those we care for lead an active, fulfilling and enriched lifestyle; we are looking to appoint positive, committed and forward-thinking Day Support Workers to assist us in this goal.
As part of our team, you will enable and support with activities encouraging our residents to enjoy Island life, from walks along the coast from Shanklin to Sandown, trips to feed the ducks, bus trips around the Isle of Wight and visits to local garden centres. You’ll join our residents on day trips and excursions to a range of Island attractions such as Tapnell Farm, Robin Hill and Rylstone Gardens.
Our residents have a wide range of care needs and diverse interests, so you will tailor your work to suit each individual, ensuring everyone is happy and engaged in the activities and experiences that suit them best.
On site at home, you could be supporting arts and crafts workshops, domestic duties such as cleaning or helping in the kitchen, as we provide delicious home cooked meals each day. You’ll also support regular personal care as needed, which can include toileting, dressing and feeding, helping each individual to be as independent as possible.
You will play a key role in delivering a high-quality, person-centred service that actively supports and maximises residents\' independence and life experience. Our team needs to be energetic and enthusiastic, with the ability to be gentle and calm, and to adapt to the needs of all residents, including those who communicate non-verbally, which may require time and patience to master.
