We are recruiting for a Band 7 Sonographer, Midwife Sonographer (or equivalent) to become a key member of our Radiology department. This is a challenging and fast-paced service requiring confidence, professionalism and the ability to motivate yourself and others. Full time and part-time applications are welcome.
Main duties
* Maintain professional and technical standards at all times using expert knowledge in line with local, regional and national guidelines where appropriate.
* Under supervision, perform a range of ultrasound examinations and prepare a report on the clinical findings in accordance with departmental protocols.
* Interpret obstetric ultrasound images to establish diagnosis and influence patient management, including accurate dating based on fetal ultrasound measurements.
* Contribute to screening for fetal anomalies, monitor growth in at‑risk fetuses, and liaise with obstetric clinicians or midwives as appropriate.
* Ensure imaging procedures comply with mandatory departmental systems of work and protocols.
* Adapt technique to the patient’s condition and cooperation level.
* Maintain high standards of patient care and patient dignity during examinations, including intimate procedures.
* Audit and evaluate own practice with peers; work within and contribute to the multidisciplinary team.
* Support quality assurance programmes including departmental audits and clinical governance; collect data as required.
* Comply with manual handling guidelines and risk assessments; assist in documenting risks identified in the department.
* Support service developments, staff development, and reflective practice.
Key Requirements
* Perform a comprehensive range of ultrasound procedures without supervision, inside the department and externally when required (e.g., wards, intensive care).
* Independently interpret ultrasound images, produce comprehensive final clinical reports, and communicate diagnosis/treatment with clinicians and patients.
* Contribute to efficient deployment of resources to ensure safe, accurate and timely examinations.
* Prioritise patients and manage workload from multiple referral pathways to meet service needs, including issuing immediate reports when necessary.
* Help meet rapidly changing demands on the radiology service.
