Support Worker Job Description
The role involves providing personal care and support to individuals with disabilities or health needs. Responsibilities include:
1. Assisting with personal care such as toileting, bathing, dressing, and mobility.
2. Supporting meal preparation and eating.
3. Assisting with medication management.
4. Helping with household chores and homemaking tasks.
5. Supporting attendance at appointments, shopping, and attending social/leisure activities.
6. Encouraging socialisation, friendships, and independence.
7. Developing a trusting, one-to-one working relationship.
8. Supporting with paperwork and correspondence.
9. Assisting with gardening and caring for pets.
10. Supporting the individual to access community activities and transport.
11. Supporting participation in sports and leisure activities.
12. Promoting safety, reporting accidents, hazards, and defects immediately.
13. Undertaking necessary training such as Moving and Handling, First Aid, and Epilepsy management.
Requirements include:
1. Being 18 or over, with a full driving license (essential for role, must be 21 for insurance).
2. Flexibility to work shifts before or after 10pm, including alternate weekends and sleep-ins.
3. Ability to accompany clients on holidays and support during sleep nights.
4. Attributes such as honesty, reliability, punctuality, confidentiality, patience, empathy, and good listening skills.
5. No prior experience necessary; a genuine interest in supporting people with disabilities is essential.
6. Ability to work independently and as part of a team, following instructions accurately.
7. Willingness to undertake training and support clients as needed.
This position involves supporting two adults with physical and neurological disabilities in the same home, including assisting with passive exercises, swimming, changing dressings, and covering for staff absences.
