Overview
Position Summary:
Under minimal supervision, leads software development activities including software requirements, architecture, design, implementation, and integration.
Responsibilities
The Software Architect reports to the Software Manager for Architecture and Platforms and is responsible for assigning and overseeing the practical use of technology, architecture, and design practices across multiple products, assuring the proper and consistent use of common architecture and patterns. Oversees implementation of common development quality control practices to ensure consistent and quality implementation of software deliverables. Responsible for all software functional requirements and design specifications documents, including architecture, design diagrams, and implementation documents. Identifies and leads the incorporation of common industry technologies into the software in order to address complex business problems and/or improve quality standards of generated software while meeting business goals. Drives technical research to support next-generation product development.
Key Accountabilities
1. Responsible for the overall software architecture of a product line.
2. Oversees and drives consistent use of the software platform across multiple product lines and business units.
3. Ensures consistency is maintained in the underlying software platform across all products.
4. Oversees and ensures consistent shared application of technology, architecture, and design practices across programs in area of expertise.
5. Performs and participates in code reviews and design reviews to ensure that code and designs are reliable, consistent, and meet product requirements.
6. Supervises and coordinates technical aspects with the technical team leads.
7. Supports strategy for requirements generation and organization and ensures functional requirements are consistent throughout the different products.
8. Identifies and leads the use of third-party technology according to current industry trends and product business and quality objectives.
9. Assists functional lead in producing realistic estimates of tasks to be performed.
10. Drives product Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) in collaboration with Team Leads, POs, and Functional Leadership.
11. Strategically participates in writing complex pieces of software in the project.
12. Troubleshoots and resolves complex software issues, ensuring high reliability and performance.
13. Develops and codes proof of concepts to vet ideas.
14. Other tasks as assigned.
Networking/Key Relationships
15. Coordinates and integrates architecture, design, and development efforts with other technical groups, product owners, scrum masters, and Quality Test Engineering.
16. Assists the Software Development Leadership in performance management.
17. Interfaces with the R&D Software Teams in the different Werfen Technology Centers to drive alignment and harmonization.
18. Assists and mentors other team members in complex problem resolution.
Minimum Knowledge & Experience Required for the Position:
19. Requires a BS in Electrical/Computer Engineering and at least 15 years experience or an MS Degree and at least 10 years experience in degreed field.
20. Must have participated in managing a product development effort.
21. Mastery of programming languages like C++, Java, Angular, and Python.
Skills & Capabilities:
22. Works independently, interested in a variety of tasks, and has effective time management skills.
23. Strong leadership skills to align software engineers with product architecture vision.
24. Basic project management skills.
25. Strong oral and written communication skills.
26. Experience in software medical devices development that follows ISO, IEC / 21 CFR Part .30 highly desired.
27. Sound understanding of the Linux operating system involving kernel, device drivers, IP networking, filesystems, and bootloaders.
28. Good understanding of design patterns, framework libraries such as Angular and Java.
29. Good understanding of distributed design architecture like microservices, messaging, and embedded protocols.
30. Good knowledge of yocto, cmake, shell scripting, Docker, and VM.
31. Good knowledge of embedded systems especially in the motor control domain.
32. In-depth knowledge of cybersecurity involving threat modelling and SE Linux.
33. Job scheduling experience in robotics is a plus.
Qualifications
Min Knowledge & Experience required for the position:
34. Bachelor's Degree plus a minimum of 17 years of related experience or Master's Degree plus a minimum of 15 years of related experience or waiver based on experience.
35. Degree should be in a technical discipline such as Chemistry, Math, Physics, Engineering, or Computer Science.
36. Proficient in code languages (Assembly, C, C++, Java, C#, .NET, etc.) found in product development.
37. Proficiency with a personal computer and software packages

The annual base salary range for this role is currently $, range to $, range. Individual employee compensation will ultimately depend on factors including education, relevant experience, skillset, knowledge, and particular business needs.
