JN Technical are recruiting a Head of Design on behalf an engineering consultancy, who deliver innovative, sustainable, and cost-effective solutions across sectors including infrastructure, construction, energy, and the built environment. With a reputation for technical excellence and client-focused delivery, we are seeking a driven Head of Design.
Role Overview
As Head of Design, you will be responsible for leading the companys design strategy, managing multi-disciplinary design teams, and ensuring the highest technical and quality standards. You will work closely with senior leadership, project managers, and clients to ensure that all design output supports business objectives, delivers value, and exceeds industry best practice.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead, manage, and mentor a team of design engineers, technicians, and design managers.
* Oversee all design activity from concept through to delivery, ensuring technical excellence, compliance, and innovation.
* Develop and implement design standards, processes, and quality assurance frameworks.
* Collaborate with project teams to ensure design aligns with programme, budget, and client requirements.
* Drive the adoption of digital design tools, BIM, and emerging technologies to improve efficiency and collaboration.
* Act as a technical authority, providing guidance, approvals, and sign-off on complex engineering designs.
* Foster a culture of creativity, sustainability, and continuous improvement within the design team.
* Represent the business at client meetings, industry forums, and technical presentations.
* Support business development by contributing to bids, proposals, and client engagement strategies.
Key Requirements
* Chartered Engineer (CEng) or equivalent professional registration.
* Extensive design leadership experience in an engineering consultancy or related industry.
* Proven track record of leading multi-disciplinary design teams and delivering large-scale projects.
* Strong knowledge of UK design codes, standards, and regulations.
* Expertise in design management processes, digital engineering, and BIM.
* Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills.
* Commercial acumen and understanding of project delivery models.
