Overview

Installation Electrical Technician - Permanent role, 37 hrs core per week. Location: Washington (Mobile Worker with van and fuel card provided). Salary: up to £42,056 + overtime (OTE of £6,000 in overtime).

About The Role

We are looking to recruit an experienced industrial installation electrical technician to work in the Integrated Design & Delivery team. Reporting to a team lead you will, as part of a team, be required to successfully scope and design solutions to identified issues and then carry out installations and modifications of electrical and instrumentation equipment to a high professional standard. You will be responsible for liaising with asset owners to efficiently deliver low to medium complexity installations on Northumbrian Water (NWL) operational sites while safeguarding the site process. You must be able to read electrical drawings, identify, source, and install components. You will understand single phase and 3 phase AC systems, level control, variable speed drives, motor starting methods including DOL & Star Delta, as well as a willingness to multi-skill. Knowledge of PLCs, radio and telemetry would be beneficial, but could be part of your development plan in future years. NWL offers support and training so that you will be competent in designing, installing, and commissioning electrical components / machinery as appropriate. You will be issued a laptop and smart phone to access relevant software packages to support your role and communicate effectively with project teams. Working on multiple sites, with no one day being the same, provides a challenging and varied environment. All tools, PPE and equipment are provided. You will be a fully mobile worker covering the Northumbrian region, starting and finishing from home. Please note that once core/competency training is complete the role requires occasional standby work with standby payments for out of hours installations; competitive rates apply for callouts and additional hours.

About You

You’ll be a time-served electrical technician educated to at least ONC/NVQ level 3 or equivalent in electrical engineering. You’ll have an installation and/or maintenance background and be able to manage your time efficiently with minimal supervision. You should be competent in reading electrical drawings and installing components to BS7671 (18th edition). A strong desire to expand skills through core and module-based training is expected, with potential salary enhancements for technicians achieving multiple modules. You’ll have a can-do attitude, willingness to learn, and a hands-on approach to problem solving. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, teamwork, and a strong health and safety ethic are important. Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word) is desirable and familiarity with contractor engagement and Construction (Design and Management) regulations is a plus. A full UK driving licence is essential and you will have use of a company van during working hours.

Here at Northumbrian Water/Essex & Suffolk Water, diversity, inclusion and equity means bringing your full self to work. We welcome applications from all underrepresented groups to reflect our communities.

What We Will Give You
