This unique role is to provide two day a week support to the UCLH Head of Nuclear Medicine Physics who currently holds an NIHR fellowship for these two days. The department, the Institute of Nuclear Medicine is a joint clinical-academic facility based in a large teaching hospital whose work covers the whole breadth of nuclear medicine physics practice. From the scientific; QA and technical support of our wide range of cutting-edge equipment; work in our extensive in and outpatient radiopharmaceutical therapy service; and the radiation safety infrastructure that keeps our patients and staff safe. As a senior member of our nuclear medicine physics team of 8 medical physicists and one physics assistant you will also have a key role to play in the management and support of the team and will also be expected to help provide Medical Physics Expert support. With academic and honorary academic appointments within the department, there will also be opportunities for research and teaching.
Main duties of the job
To provide highly specialised advice and guidance to the department in matters relating to imaging, MRT, non-imaging and radiation safety practice.
To participate in the development of existing scientific aspects of the nuclear medicine service.
To help ensure that all relevant guidelines, policies, legislation, governance, audit and quality standards are adhered to.
To help support the introduction of new techniques and the management of the departments clinical standard operating protocols, and its policies, procedures and associated documentation
To contribute to the planning and implementation of the INM’s strategic programme for capital replacement of these major items of imaging equipment
To help manage the performance and reliability of INM’s nuclear medicine and PET equipment through a comprehensive QA programme.
To act as a Medical Physics Expert, as defined in IR(ME)R 2017, and to ensure that Trust complies with all safety legislation in the remit of the nuclear medicine department.
To support the principal clinical scientists in the management and development of the team of medical physicists and assistants.
To contribute to the research, development and teaching programmes of the department and to take part in research projects undertaken in collaboration with other departments and external institutions.
