The post is Team Leader aligned to our Medicine Clinical Pharmacy Unit and you will be one of a team of two Team leaders across our pharmacy clinical and supply services working collaboratively with our Divisional Lead Pharmacists to ensure we deliver the best possible (and award winning) services for our patients, colleagues and service users, 365 days a year at Preston and Chorley Hospitals.

You will provide leadership and management to our clinical pharmacy technicians, medicines management pharmacy technicians and medicines management assistants (MMAs) and be the nominate professional lead for the Medicines Management Pharmacy Technicians.

Main duties of the job

In collaboration with Divisional Lead Pharmacist, you will be responsible for all aspects of operational management for services provided by our clinical pharmacy technicians, medicines management pharmacy technicians and medicines management assistants, including efficient and cost-effective operational performance; quality, safety and governance; and continuous improvement and service development in line with departmental objectives and priorities, Trust single improvement plan and in response to staff and patient experience.

Responsibilities include staff management and leadership, training and development and supporting health and well being of staff working within the clinical pharmacy unit.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Duties will include, but are not limited to:

1. Responsible and accountable for planning, management and organisation of the medicines management and clinical services, satellite pharmacies and near patient dispensing schemes in the medicine CPU.
2. Provide leadership to and manage the work of Pharmacy Technicians and Assistants
3. Responsible for effective utilisation of staff and for the management and planning of staff rosters to assure appropriate deployment of people and skills.
4. Responsible for accurate and efficient management of pharmacy stock in satellite dispensaries
5. Systems Administrator for pharmacy IT systems
6. Develop and deliver structured training programmes and competency assessments for pharmacy technicians and pharmacy assistants
7. To record and analyse department activity, ensuring departmental and Trust KPI targets are met.
8. Develop, review and maintain Standard Operating Procedures and Dispensary Policies. Proactively manage risk and maintain safety,
9. To ensure services are designed, delivered and evaluated to meet service needs and to inform future practice.
10. To continually look for ways to improve processes, services and patient safety within the services, pharmacy dept and the Trust
11. To contribute to, implement and champion pharmacy Waste Reduction Plan initiatives

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria

12. Level 3 Diploma in The Principles and Practice for Pharmacy Technicians OR a recognised Pharmacy Technician Qualification meeting requirements for registration with GPhC
13. Registration with GPhC and evidence of CPD and revalidation
14. Post Graduate Leadership and Management qualification or combination of relevant short courses.

Desirable criteria

15. Technician Accuracy Checking Certificate
16. Clinical Pharmacy Services Diploma for Pharmacy Technician (BTEC L4)
17. Medicines Management Course Certification
18. Member of Association of Pharmacy Technicians UK
19. Continuous Improvement/Project Management Qualification

Knowledge

Essential criteria

20. Relevant experience within pharmacy services including supervisory/team leadership experience.
21. Operational experience where management and leadership qualities have been demonstrated.
22. Experience of working with patients and the multidisciplinary team
23. Staff development/training/teaching experience
24. Experience of efficient stock management systems and supply processes
25. Knowledge and experience of EMIS Pharmacy and ARX /Omnicel robot systems
26. Experience of audit and performance monitoring; collecting, analysing and presenting data and information
27. Experience of developing standard operating procedures and policies
28. Knowledge of risk management processes.
29. Awareness of medicines legislation and developments within pharmacy practice
30. Experience with service development and continuous improvement projects
