The purpose of the Patient Flow Assistant is the preparation of patients for procedures, the transfer of patients to and from the IPU, and the preparation of bed/trolley areas in order to facilitate patient flow in a prompt, professional and efficient manner. The assistant must respond quickly to requests for their services to provide a positive patient experience and first‑class service.
Clinical Responsibilities
* Welcome patients onto the Unit and escort them to main IPU reception through the clinical area.
* Answer queries promptly and courteously, taking appropriate actions according to the mode of enquiry or the information required.
* Inform or refer enquiries or problems to the relevant qualified staff where appropriate.
* Initiate and assist with basic cardio‑pulmonary resuscitation procedure when necessary.
* Transfer the patient/client from one care area to another under the delegation of the Registered Nurse (e.g., inpatient ward to IPU).
* Assist in mobilising patients from stretchers, wheelchairs & toilets.
Clinical Support Responsibilities
* Appropriately monitor patients, informing relevant staff of progress and/or difficulties relating to mobility.
* Prepare individual patients and the environment to ensure effective movement and/or handling procedures.
* Chaperone patients as required, ensuring appropriate support.
* Actively support and assist in alleviating patient or carer distress and anxiety, consistent with their personal beliefs and preferences.
Environment Support Responsibilities
* Be responsible for self and others by identifying risks and undertaking work activities safely.
* Maintain cleanliness in the work environment in line with Trust & local health and safety policies.
* Prepare and maintain patient treatment areas.
* Assist in the transfer of materials and equipment as requested, including maintenance of equipment.
* Contribute to the general tidiness and cleanliness of the clinical environment, including correct disposal of waste.
Indirect Care - Clinical Support Responsibilities
* Welcome and orient patients, visitors and others to the department, ensuring all communications result in effective customer care.
* Assist in stock rotation/assist Housekeeper to ensure clinical areas are appropriately stocked.
Professional and Administrative Responsibilities
* Demonstrate respect for the individual patient, considering religious, cultural and social needs at all times.
* Recognise and report abusive behaviour to an appropriate member of staff; document the same.
* Contribute to effective team working by being fully involved, committed and participative in achieving full potential.
* Develop personal awareness of others’ perceptions, acknowledging and changing behaviour in response to constructive feedback.
* Adhere to Trust Uniform Policy at all times.
* Undertake all training required to perform duties effectively, including mandatory training courses.
* Maintain a personal professional portfolio in accordance with development plans and undertake The Christie Care Certificate.
* Assist in preparing patient notes, relevant charts, nursing documentation and identity bracelets prior to discharge.
* Undertake clerical duties as directed by the Registered Nurse in relation to verbal and written communications, ensuring messages are passed to other team members, and manage storage and retrieval of such information.

Application Requirements
* All positions within the Christie are subject to satisfactory written references, medical clearance and evidence of your Right to Work in the UK.
* Some roles will require a Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) check.
* The role is 37.5 hours per week, worked over 5 days, from 07:30 to 16:30 Monday to Friday. The IPU is closed on weekends and Bank Holidays, offering an excellent work‑life balance.
