Department Overview The Secretary's Department supports the Court of Directors and other key Governing Committees of the Bank. The Secretary is the Bank's Conflicts Officer, and Secretary's Department is responsible for the application of the Conflicts of Interest Codes applying to the Bank's policy committees, and has responsibility for the individual conflict of interest policies that are reflected in 'Our Code', and for the provision of advice. The Secretary's Department is also responsible for the Bank's records and archives; the Bank's records management; and the Information Centre. Team Overview The Information Centre facilitates the work of the Bank across all its directorates by delivering a professional business library service. We curate and provide access to quality information resources, advise on their effective use, and support research in line with the Bank's strategic goals. We build relationships with business areas to understand and anticipate the Bank's evolving information requirements. We help preserve the Bank's heritage by promoting our special collection and maintaining a repository of the Bank's own published output. Job Description Library management system Lead on running the Library Management System (LMS). Develop the LMS to improve library processes and services to users. Act as the main contact with the LMS supplier over system issues, in particular when there are upgrades, down time or major changes. As the Information Centre team's expert on the LMS, provide advice and help to other team members on technical issues. Liaise with Technology and Cybersecurity colleagues to log issues and diagnose faults. Resource discovery service Lead on developing the resource discovery service (currently EBSCO Discovery) including integration with the LMS. In consultation with the Information Centre team, review the current set-up and implement agreed changes. Ensure the team fully understand how Discovery works and what is included in it so that it can be effectively promoted to users. Intranet/Shared workspace Maintain and develop the Information Centre's intranet and Sharepoint pages, ensuring they are accessible, informative and current. In consultation with the Information Centre team, review current pages and implement agreed changes. Act as one of the administrators for the Information Centre community on Bank Exchange and add posts as relevant. Reports, Statistics and Procedures Generate regular statistical reports from the LMS and other systems, as well as usage reports from online services such as online databases and newspapers. Provide analysis from a variety of data sources to support evidence-based decision-making in the library. Set up occasional online surveys as required. Maintain the Information Centre's handbook of documents and procedures for use of library systems and keep these updated. Regularly check the IT equipment in the Information Centre is up-to-date and functional, reporting issues to Technology helpdesk. Departmental liaison and support With other Information Centre team members, promote Information Centre services to designated departments, identify their information requirements and act as first point of contact for questions and feedback from colleagues. Attend and present at divisional and team meetings as appropriate and give training sessions for these areas on relevant information resources. Provision of information searches and response to enquiries Respond to in-depth search results on specific topics and handle general enquiry work. Information searches includes provision of subject area briefings, reading lists, bibliographies, news and media alerts. The work also includes responding to book and article requests and making judgements on acquisition following the Collection Development Policy; cataloguing; and circulating books using the LMS. Role Requirements Minimum Essential Criteria Qualifications Educated to graduate level or equivalent experience. Accredited library or information science qualification or working towards this. Skills/Knowledge Experience of running a library management system. Excellent IT skills across a range of activities such as the key functions of a library management system, database searching skills, advanced use of Excel spreadsheets, and markup and programming languages such as html or R. Knowledge of library metadata and interchange formats and standards. Strong organizational skills, and effectiveness in balancing multiple assignments. Ability to demonstrate initiative and innovation. Good communication (written and oral) including the ability to explain concepts and issues to technical and non-technical colleagues. Ability to work effectively as part of a small team, providing support to colleagues and enabling them to develop their knowledge and skills to carry out their roles effectively. Salary and Benefits Information We encourage flexible working, part time working and job share arrangements. Part time salary and benefits will be on a pro-rated basis as appropriate. This specific role offers a base salary of £36,320 per annum on a full-time basis. In addition, we also offer a comprehensive benefits package as detailed below: A non-contributory, career average pension giving you a guaranteed retirement benefit of 1/95th of your annual salary for every year worked. There is the option to increase your pension (to 1/50th) or decrease (to 1/120th) in exchange for salary through our flexible benefits programme each year.
