We are looking for a Principal EC&I Engineer to work on a long term contract in Glasgow/Hybrid (typically 3 days in the office and 2 days' from home).
Rate is c£55-60 Umbrella per hour/PAYE equivalent.
Main Purpose of the Principal EC&I Engineer role:
To define and distribute engineering scope to ensure all work is delivered safely, on schedule, and to the required quality standards. This includes delivering design and engineering outputs to support Design Reviews, HAZOPs, and project procedures. The role also involves supervising and developing junior engineers, managing engineering resources, and participating in recruitment activities.
Position in the Organisation

Reports to a Principal Engineer, Team Leader, or Department Manager.
*
Line management responsibilities ultimately sit with the discipline Chief Engineer.
*
Typically supervises a project or design team of up to five engineering staff, with the potential to integrate additional resources when required.
*
Responsible for allocating work and managing quality, progress, and cost within the assigned project scope.
*
Manages project subcontracts as required.
*
Works closely with clients and with managers of other engineering disciplines.
*
Ensures effective communication within the project team for allocated project activities.
Key Accountabilities
*
Delivery of EC&I design, specifications, procurement, supplier/manufacturer liaison, installation oversight, acceptance testing, commissioning, and operator training within engineering projects.
*
Collaboration with multidisciplinary engineering teams.
*
Provision of technical consultancy.
*
Project management responsibilities, including quality control, progress reporting, cost management, and documentation.
*
Support to sales activities and client engagement.
*
Management of contractors and subcontractors; contribution to staff development.
*
Promotion of a strong safety culture, ensuring compliance with safety legislation (e.g., CDM, CE marking) and application of appropriate safety systems.
Essential Experience & Attributes
For an EC&I Engineer:
*
Degree-qualified in a relevant engineering or technical discipline, or equivalent demonstrable experience.
*
Full UK driving licence.
*
Working towards Chartered Engineer status (where applicable).
*
Minimum of 5 years’ experience within the nuclear industry.
*
Proven experience in a design and/or delivery role within a project-driven environment.
*
Good understanding of design requirements related to supporting nuclear safety cases.
*
Strong experience in at least two of the following EC&I areas:

Mechanical handling (including remote in-cell handling)
*
Process instrumentation
*
Functional safety (BS EN 61508 / BS EN 61511)
*
Machinery safety (BS EN 60204 / BS EN 13849)
*
LV distribution systems (including Trimble ProDesign experience)
