Day Centre Operative Location: Southend on Sea Salary: £24,968 £26,194 per annum Hours: 37 hours per week (rota basis, including weekends) Contract: Permanent We are working with a charity who provide life-changing support for people experiencing homelessness. They are now looking for a compassionate and proactive Day Centre Operative to join their team and help deliver vital services for those rough sleeping in the community. About the Role As a Day Centre Operative, you will be at the heart of the service, ensuring that people experiencing homelessness have access to a safe space and essential facilities such as food, showers, and laundry. You will support the running of recovery groups, help manage donations, and work closely with outreach colleagues to connect people with the right housing, health, and welfare services. This is a varied and rewarding role where no two days are the same. Youll take a trauma-informed, person-centred approach, helping individuals begin their journey away from homelessness. Key Responsibilities Provide a welcoming and supportive environment for those accessing the day centre. Support service users to identify needs and access appropriate accommodation and support. Help deliver groups and activities, capturing outcomes and impact data. Build effective relationships with external agencies to ensure joined-up support. Maintain accurate records and contribute to support planning. Oversee the smooth running of laundry services, donations, and reception duties. Ensure the centre remains safe, clean, and well-maintained, following health and safety guidelines. About You Were looking for someone who is passionate about making a difference to peoples lives. You will bring: Experience of supporting and motivating people with complex needs (Desirable) Basic knowledge of homelessness, housing, and health-related issues. Excellent communication and relationship-building skills. The ability to stay calm and manage conflict effectively. Confidence using IT systems and maintaining accurate records. Flexibility to work shifts across weekdays and weekends. It would be desirable if you hold a relevant qualification (such as NVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care, Housing, or IAG) and have knowledge of welfare benefits, but this is not essential.
