This Learning Support Assistant role offers an exceptional pathway into clinical psychology. Working within a specialist education setting, you will support pupils with autism, communication differences, sensory needs and learning disabilities — gaining direct experience relevant to future assistant psychologist or postgraduate psychology applications.

What your role looks like day-to-day
As a Learning Support Assistant, you will:
6. Work 1:1 and in small groups to support learning, behaviour and social development.
7. Assist pupils with communication, regulation and engagement throughout the school day.
8. Help deliver therapy-based activities and structured learning.
9. Follow individual behaviour support and intervention plans written by clinical and therapy teams.
10. Use positive reinforcement and supportive strategies to encourage progress.
11. Create accurate observations to report back to teachers and clinical professionals.
This hands-on experience gives you real, measurable examples to discuss in future clinical interviews and personal statements.
