Overview
CNC Turner Programmer — Halstead, Essex. 1 x Night Shift – 11:00–07:00 Sunday–Thursday; 1 x Shift – 07:00–15:00/23:00 on rotation. Pay £35,000–£45,000 depending on shift and experience. Unlimited overtime available.
About the client: a leading aerospace-grade precision foundry and machining specialist, manufacturing high-integrity sand and investment castings, with in-house heat treatment, NDT (X-ray/PFD), metallurgical lab, and a full CNC machine shop. AS9100 Rev C and NADCAP accredited, employing around 115 people on a single site. The multi-shift machine shop runs around the clock to support both prototype and production batches.

Role Overview
As a CNC Turner Programmer, you will program, set up, and operate CNC lathes to high-precision tolerances, primarily handling Doosan Puma and Daewoo Puma machines. You’ll work within a multi-shift schedule, early/late shifts, or nights, in a dynamic machine shop focused on machining castings to aerospace standards.
Key Responsibilities
* Program CNC lathes (Fanuc compatible) from engineering drawings or CAD models
* Machine setup & tooling: install fixtures, load tooling, set offsets, and prepare the lathe for production
* Operate & monitor machines: oversee production runs, adjust feeds/speeds, detect/resolves issues
* Quality assurance: perform regular inspections using precision tools and liaise with the CMM team
* Continuous improvement: contribute to process optimisation and production efficiency
* Documentation & safety: maintain production logs and comply with health, safety, and environmental standards
Required Experience
* Proven competency programming, setting, and operating CNC lathes (2-axis and/or multi-axis)
* Skilled in reading/understanding engineering drawings, GD&T, and tolerance requirements
* Experience with Fanuc controls is a strong advantage
* Familiarity with machining castings or complex components
* Good problem-solving skills and attention to detail
Desirable Qualifications
* Engineering apprenticeship, vocational diploma (ONC/CNC), or equivalent experience
* Experience with CNC machine probing and CMM/inspection interfaces
* Forklift/crane license beneficial for material handling
