Overview
The Royal London Hospital is looking to recruit a Healthcare Support Worker (HCA) Band 3 to work in the Adult Theatres service. This post is open to experienced Healthcare Support Workers or those new to care. Those new to care will receive support to complete the Band 3 competencies and progress into a Band 3 role within six months upon successful completion of all required competencies.
We are looking for compassionate and motivated individuals who are passionate about delivering high-quality, person-centred care in a hospital setting. The role involves undertaking a range of delegated clinical tasks.
Responsibilities
* Patient observations (e.g., monitoring vital signs)
* Assisting with personal care and mobility
* Supporting patients' nutritional and hydration needs
* Undertaking limited range of delegated duties (e.g., taking blood pressure, recording ECG, MRSA screening)
* Simple wound dressings
* Demonstrating strong teamwork and communication to ensure the comfort, wellbeing and safety of patients
The postholder will work within the Operating Theatre/Recovery and associated areas, assisting Registered Practitioners within the boundaries of the job description. We have twenty-six Adult, Paediatric and Obstetrics theatres covering a diverse range of elective and emergency work.
Main duties and development
The post holder will be an integral part of the nursing team, actively meeting patient and service needs under direct supervision of the registered nurse. The post holder will continue to develop essential competencies through training and practice to ensure safety and quality.
This post attracts individuals who are new to care. You will receive support to complete the Band 3 competencies and progress into a Band 3 role within six months, while at a Band 2 salary until progression is achieved.

Qualifications
Essential
* Completion of Care Certificate or equivalent
* Basic literacy and numeracy skills (English and Maths GCSEs or equivalent)
* Evidence of ongoing personal development
Desirable
* Level 2 support worker Apprenticeship
Experience
Essential
* Demonstrable experience of working in a clinical healthcare setting
* Experience of dealing with the public
Knowledge
Essential
* Awareness of health and safety at work, e.g., manual handling and infection control measures
* Ability to collect and exchange factual information and data with the multidisciplinary team and ensure data accuracy
