Overview
Job summary within the West Neighbourhood at Northumbria Primary Care for an increase in our Band 5 Registered Senior Pharmacy Technician teams, supporting a group of GP practices within a neighbourhood footprint.
The successful candidate will contribute to the delivery of a comprehensive primary care medicines management system acting on current best practice. The Pharmacy Technician will undertake activities predominantly within practice, but will be flexible to work to the wider demands of the network.
To be eligible for this role you must have already completed your CPPE PCPEP qualification.

Main duties
* Work alongside other staff and develop their skills to prioritise workload. May supervise medicines technicians, Pharmacy technicians, student pharmacy technicians and pre-registration pharmacists.
* Interpret prescriptions for drug problems such as drug dosage, form and administration. Consider legality, clarity and risk associated with prescribed medicines and prescriptions and make basic interventions to ensure medicines are safe for patients and refer as appropriate to medicines management technician or pharmacist.
* Interpret basic medicine supply information and consider appropriate solutions to ensure continuation of supply, referring as appropriate. Assess situations concerning the availability of prescribed medicines and refer non-standard prescriptions to relevant authority.
* Assist and coach practice staff in the collation and analysis of data for reviews/audits as required, improving medicines management within the practice.
* Support embedded systems to ensure governance and operational issues are reviewed, discussed weekly with the team and escalated as required.

Job responsibilities
* As Senior Pharmacy Technician, the post-holder will be responsible to the Practice Lead and will work autonomously in the day-to-day management of the team they manage.
* The Senior Pharmacy Technician will coordinate medicine hub activities to ensure a high standard of patient care, sound teamwork and close co-operation with the clinical and managerial team.
* On-site daily responsibility for staffing issues, informal complaints, and ensuring the workforce is appropriately supported, trained and appraised.
* Work under the Clinical Pharmacy Service to deliver comprehensive medicines management in a primary care setting, including medicines reconciliation and repeat prescription requests.
* Liaise with pharmacy staff and other healthcare professionals to provide a patient-oriented medicines management service, conducting medicines reviews for suitable patients.
* Collaborate with the Clinical Pharmacist to adopt a team approach to medicines management and provide advice to healthcare professionals, patients and carers.
* Develop and undertake medicines management audits to support practice discussions and subsequent actions.
Qualifications and experience
Essential
* BTEC in pharmaceutical science or NVQ Level 3 with underpinning knowledge (e.g., national certificate in Pharmaceutical Sciences) plus specialist training and experience equivalent to degree level (or equivalent knowledge/experience).
* Registered as a Pharmacy Technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council.
* CPPE PCPEP qualification.
Desirable
* Evidence of relevant continuing professional development.
* Valid driving licence and ability to use a car for work purposes, or a Trust personal lease vehicle (reasonable adjustments available if needed).
Experience
Essential
* Experience of working in a primary care setting or with primary care teams.
* Experience in hospital, community or primary care pharmacy settings.
* Medicines management experience.
* Audit experience.
* Experience coordinating and prioritising daily workloads.
Desirable
* Previous experience in Pharmacy, supervising staff, coaching/mentoring, and knowledge of quality improvement tools.
