An exciting opportunity has arisen for a School Health Screener in the 0‑19 team in Wirral to support the development of the 0‑19 Health and Wellbeing services, working in partnership with the Local Authority, partner agencies and Primary Care Team. The role involves delivering the school aged screening programme for the National Child Measurement Programme (NCMP), developing and delivering health care and health promotion activities, and contributing to best practice development.

Job responsibilities
* Work across Wirral supporting delivery of the Healthy Child Programme 0‑19.
* Deliver the school aged screening programme for audiology, vision and the National Child Measurement Programme (NCMP).
* Plan, organise and liaise with schools to undertake height and weight monitoring.
* Deal with enquiries from parents generated from the height and weight monitoring programme, informing parents of the results of their child’s weight and engaging in difficult conversations with those who have a child that is overweight.
* Provide advice to pupils, parents/carers and school staff regarding the screening and obesity monitoring programmes.
* Provide a holistic approach to promoting health and wellbeing whilst undertaking unsupervised contact, recognising when to liaise and report to registered clinical staff.
* Provide health education sessions to children in schools (e.g. healthy eating).
* Daily input of screening data.
* Assist in producing reports on screening figures and uptake for service area.
* Assist in the development of materials and activities for inclusion in health promotion and behaviour change programmes.
* Promote positive health to individuals, families, groups, communities and relevant agencies.
* Prepare Health Education displays and maintain materials/leaflets, including ordering and stock management.
* Responsible for the safe use of screening and the transportation of equipment, which includes height measures and scales; ensure equipment is safe by testing and reporting faults or concerns to Screening Programme Co‑ordinator.
* Work in accordance with current Trust policies and procedures, ensuring safeguarding procedures are maintained.
* Assist in the learning experience of students in their community placement and participate in the orientation of new team members.
* Liaise with other statutory agencies and voluntary agencies as appropriate.
* Participate and contribute to regular management supervision with Line Manager.
* Participate in annual appraisal and PDR as per Trust policy.
* Possess the Trust’s core competencies for role and attend mandatory training relevant to role.
* As a lone worker adhere to the Trust health and safety and lone working policies.
Administration
* Maintain accurate paper and computer records as outlined in the NMC guidelines.
* Work in accordance with the Trust’s policies/procedures and clinical guidelines.
* Report any absence from duty to the Screening Programme Co‑ordinator and the Service lead in accordance with Trust guidelines.
* Maintain own professional development.
* Attend essential learning in line with Trust guidelines.
The post holder will be required to undertake any other duties and responsibilities within the framework of the post.
Person Specification
Qualifications and Professional Training
* NVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care/Child Care or equivalent experience.
* Evidence of continuing professional development.
* Brief Intervention/Motivational interviewing trained.
Experience and Knowledge
* Experience in a health related post.
* Experience of working with children and young people.
* Experience of liaising with other agencies.
* Knowledge of safeguarding issues.
* Knowledge of the National Child Measurement Programme.
* Experience of data collection for reports.
* Experience of vision and audiology screening.
