Specialist Planning Lawyer
Salary: Up to £80,000 per annum
Working arrangement: Hybrid – predominantly remote with some attendance required at client offices and Planning Committees
Contract type: Permanent, full-time
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Planning Lawyer to join a large and well-regarded local authority legal service on a permanent basis.
As a Specialist Planning Lawyer, you will handle a varied and complex caseload of planning, highways, and environmental matters, acting as a key advisor to senior officers, Members and Committees. The post carries income-generating responsibility and combines high-level casework with leadership of a small planning team.
Key Responsibilities:
• Managing a busy caseload of planning, highways and environmental matters, including S106 and highways agreements
• Advising and attending Planning Committees on complex and strategic applications
• Supporting and mentoring a team of lawyers and legal officers, ensuring efficient allocation of work and client care
• Providing clear, pragmatic, and solutions-focused advice to a range of stakeholders
• Contributing to the growth of the service through effective client relationship management and business development
About You:
• Qualified Solicitor, Barrister, or Chartered Legal Executive with extensive experience in public sector planning law
• Confident advising at Committee and managing complex development matters
• Strong communicator with a commercial and pragmatic approach
• Experience of team leadership or supervision desirable
